The characters used in my story are not belonging to me, they are borrowed from "The Pretender".

It's never easy to do a good translation, so this story is not the exact replica of my french fanfic, but it's the best adaptation I could manage.

........

As usual she was sitting there, very straight on her brick wall, her tail wraped around her. Her black furr was melting with the darkness only revealing the outline of her thin figure. Standing still, her blue eyes were gazing steadily at the depth of the night. Her pink little muzzle was sniffing the air. Her pointed ears were moving in all directions, lying in wait for the slighhtest noise. Her body was shivering with excitement, she was impatiently waiting for the hunt to begin.

........

She didn't care about mouses and shrews, which were running everywhere, no, she was keeping an eye on a much more interesting prey. From the top of her wall, she had noticed a rat carefully going out of is hole. The sight of this very fresh and tender flesh, made the predator's mouth water. She licked her lips at the thought of such a feast. She unrolled her tail, which was going up and down wildly, pating soundlessly the floor. Each of her muscle tensed and slowly she stood up, then with a very discreet pace she moved closer to the rodent, who wasn't suspecting anything.

........

An evening like others, holed up in his cavern, he was bored to death, so he decided to show his little pointed nose up out of his hole. And finaly he went out, happy to remove the numbness from his paws. He felt his claws sinking into the soft and damp soil. The night was beautiful, with some luck, he would probably find something to nibble and calm his groaning stomach. Suddenly, his hair stood up on end. He doubled back and found himself staring at the mean face of a cat with very sharp teeth. He just got the time to flee before she pounced on him. The rat, at full speed, dodged in and out among flowers and tufts of grass, desesperatly looking for a hiding place, a mean to escape her.

........

She paded across the garden, towards him. She lied down flat on the ground. She observed him for a moment. She was going to jump and get him, when he felt her presence and tried to escape.
She went after him and stalked him without mercy. However each time she cornered him in a gutter or against a wall, he always managed to run away. But she was determined. Her movements were flowing steadily. Excited by the hunt, she wasn't feeling any exhaustion. She was playing with him and sending him running as a mad creature. She was smelling his fear and seing him dripping with sweat. He was tirering. Sometimes she punched him, but never hard enough to hurt him or to stun him.

........

When he escaped it was always just. He tried to get rid of her, but wherever he went she followed him, wherever he hid she found him. He was panic-striken, he was shaking from fear. He could hear the beating of her feets on the ground behind him, he could feel her breaths on his body. She was coming closer.

........

Once she was close enough, she punched him and sent him rolling in stinging nettles. He stood up , but it was too late. He saw her, he saw her claws, he saw her shinning teeth. She ripped trough him with her claws once, twice. Blood was pouring out of him. She was going to devour him, when she felt herself raising in the air. Her body turning around before she fell down onto the earth, flaws first. Only then did she see the man.

........

The man bent down and took carefully the bleeding rat in his hands.
- " It was time I came my friend "
But the cat was not impressed. She was still hoping to get her diner back. She stared at the man, who looks at her and says :
- " Believe me, you are not going to have him back, you would make short work of him. "
The cat didn't move of an inch. The man sighed and walked away, but the cat followed him.
- " Oh damn, she is stubborn "
He walked towards one of the car parked in the street. He opened the trunk and took a plastic box. He made some holes with a pocket-knife and put the poor rat inside, who by the way was on the edge of a coronary. And the cat was still there, a reprochful look in the eyes facing her meal stealer.
- " Sorry, but I was only helping a collegue, you'll be having more luck next time "
He climbed into his car and went away.

........

The man isn't mean, she knows it. He always lurks in the area and often at night. It seems he is hiding, he is beeing careful, like the rat. But she can never catch the smell of fear from him. He is always pearing at the window, looking for something or someone. That's strange, the man is strange.

.........

Worn out by her chase, she came back home, her lithe body ondulating graciously. She jumped on the window and miaowed as she pated the pane. The curtains were drawn back and the woman opened the window. She caressed the cat's head and the beast rolled on the floor, exposing the soft and warm furr of her belly, where the woman laid a gentle kiss. Then the woman sat down on the sofa near the fireplace. The warmth of burning wood was welcoming. The cat followed the woman and climbed on her knees before curling into a tight ball.

........

The phone rang, as usual. The cat raised her head and she strained her ears, while the woman caught the phone.
- " What "
- " Did you know that your furr ball terrorizes all the rodents of your neighbourhood? "
- " Since when are you interested in the wherebouts of my cat? "
- " I just find very strange that everything in our life revolves around the cat and rat game. Are you never fed up to chase after me Miss Parker? "
- " And you Jarod, are you never fed up to run away. You should let me catch you. "
- " Only in your dreams" he said as he laughed out loud before hanging up on her. "
The women sighed exasperated. The man called again. He always calls.

........

She let her head roll and the torpor overwelmed her. Her eyelids felt heavy. Under the soft caresses of the woman, she was purring before finaly falling deeply asleep, her pink muzzle resting between her paws.
