Thanks so much for doing what you do for us. You keep better and better and this was so fantastic. I'm in awe at your skills as an author and story telling. Keep keeping it real.

Didn't log in ... I can't even think after reading that. It's so.. oh my goddesses! It's simplistic maybe but it's way complex in it's simplicity and not simple at all in some ways. But I see you mean that there wasn't all that tension but there was one humoungous twist. Thank you for this. I so appreciate all you do to breathe life into the characters. I can hear Michael's voice  on the phone with her and ... like it or not he's totally the only Jarod there can ever be. You are freaking blessed with a gift and you give us gifts like this with it. Thank you!!

Author's Response:

I agree completely that no one else could ever embody the character (Jarod) the way he does (It's not exactly gossip if all I do is agree) (I hope).

Thank you for reading and for the generous review.

WOW. Mirage! I would have never thought to do that... and neither would have anyone else!!! Genius. Wow. This is the most brilliant thing ever. Please give us more. But... What will Jarod do now? Where do they go from here? I need more. Please?

Author's Response:

Aw. Thanks for reading and reviewing. You're extremely kind.

Beautifully constructed Mirage and that punch in the face ending. Miss Parker would be that cold because all of Jarod's prodding and coaxing was in his imagination. I'm curious to know what will happen next even though this sadly is marked complete. You could continue. I don't think anyone would disapprove. Please? You always leave us craving more.

Author's Response:

You're rather kind, Contessa. Exactly. Jarod never gained even the slightest amount of trust in this fic. I'm curious too, now. I never saw beyond Jarod's delusions and how the Centre and Jarod would proceed. One day I might return to this strange pretendverse and explore. If you want to take it from here, go for it. Thank you for your encouragement and enthusiasm, for reading and the incredibly generous review.

Hand over the Mirarchives and no one gets hurt. Got it? Honestly. This is one of your darkest, shortest, most psychologically intense and complex stories and you've had this written all these years and never posted it?  If I could write something that was half as good, interesting, original, well written as my least favorite fic of yours I'd happily post it. But even the fics of yours that scare me (forces of nature) (and it's excellent.. it's just terrifying) are better than anything I can imagine. This one is out of this world amazing. I want to see the Mirarchives. I'm serious. Thanks for all your work and talent. More please?

Author's Response:

Haha. I can't hand over the Mirarchives. Where would the fun be in that (for me)? I suppose this is sorta dark- oddly, I never considered it to be dark.

I did find the psychological aspect intriguing, however, rather than approaching it from Sydney's perspective, with the complexities such an approach entails (it was tempting), I chose the more simplistic route, leaving much to the reader's imagination.

I'll share more from the Mirarchives eventually- soon, perhaps. Winter is coming, after all. Thank you for reading and reviewing.

I love this. No twist? Seriously?! Biggest twist ever. Amazingly well written and capturing the characters perfectly and the atmosphere of the show and the chemistry between Sydney and Miss Parker. This is brilliant and a new fave. New to me anyway. Thank you so much for writing and sharing this with us and thanks to the person who asked you to post your early work or we might have never seen this.

And Whatever you do Mirage don't look at twitter right now. Eeks. Good God but you are a smart one for steering clear. Stay well and take care of yourself. Much love and peace.

Author's Response:

Okay, so, in hindsight it might have been misleading of me to introduce this as twist-free.

Oh. This. You were the eleventh person to warn me about twitter on 17/10/18. Thanks. I will continue to avoid the second circle of hell--- or at least I'll be wary if I stumble onto some odd truism (composed by twitterGod) and feel compelled to cast away good sense, log in, and retweet.

Thank you for reading and reviewing, Christoph.

I'm so trying hard not to spoil this for other readers who might check reviews first. What Twisted said. This is a true master stroke Mirage and a Mega Twist, the MOTHER of all twists. What you did here ...what we saw was all reverie and when we look back on some of the far fetched stuff and how the victory is always Jarod's and he never screws up and he always pesters Parker and doesn't get shot at least once by her and him trying to always be the hero and always getting away with impersonating docs and cops. not to even freaking mention the crazier stuff, the inner sense the cold dick-ness.. you have made it all make complete and total sense. Hella big thanks to you. YOu are a freaking genius.

Author's Response:

The "cold dick-ness" - that one took me an entire ten seconds (I'm defintely NOT a genius). I'm not certain that any of it is supposed to make sense. That's sorta the charm. Raines makes some wild off-the-wall statement or Sydney composes a facial expression and it's supposed to baffle us, and particuarly when Parker gives herself, her true feelings, away as spectacularly as she did when she believed that the racist bastard was going to kill Jarod (and that abrupt head-jerk of Sydney's followed by Parker's hastily stammered, "and ruin my chance"- that was gold) (and it was complete nonsense!).

I never want to make The Pretender make sense. The farther into left field the better.

Thank you, needlepoint, for reading and for the always generous review.

My brain doesn't want to brain right now young lady. Spectacular work here Mirage. I am curious about what else you're hiding in your literary vaults. I'm thankful I saw the buzz on twitter. I might have missed this without it. You're a genius and... you know just keep being a genius. This is perfect. It's magic. And I think it will easy to film an ending like this one too. Somone needed to say it. Thanks for sharing with us and thanks to the person who asked you to dig up your first works.

Author's Response:

My brain is the same 24/7. Um. You're incredibly.

Title: Refuge in Reverie

I'd like to see everything in the Mirarchives please. Like now if that's cool wit ya. This is ... it's heartbreaking but it's genius because what did Sydney say in one episode.. like the mind is capable of anything to protect its host and if Jarod really needed to go ... he would like you know... go. He said he escaped to places in his mind to survive and if he thought his simulations were killing people and if he really needed to get out and was physically stopped ... then yeah... he would totally do this. It's plausible and it's ... OMG you just bested yourself and everything and why aren't YOU writing the novels? Your mind is just...your outside the box and over the box and rip the box up thinking and hey blow the box up thinking is just amazeballs. This is my favorite ending of all time ever of anyone's period and hands down. Thank you for sharing with us even if you had to be begged to go back and find the early stuff and even though you should have shared it with us immediately. Mind Blown.

Author's Response:

No, no. The Mirarchives can only be accessed by me. It's dark in there. I suppose it is heartbreaking, and, for Jarod, frightening. I suspect Jarod will likely unravel a bit when he realizes what the muse has done to him in this NONpretend-verse. It is tempting to leap in and explore.

Thank you so much for this THE ULTIMATE missing piece Mirage. Whows! What else is in the Mirarchives? Will you please post all of it? I love this. It's such a treasure and the most original story ever. No one has ever done this... just like no one thought to have Parker kill Jarod with a pistachio laced kiss. Or have Parker and Jarod end us as twins... or... have Jarod go full dark. Or ... you are amazing. This is the best thing ever. Thanks for being talented and thanks for sharing with us. Thank you for keeping my favorite characters alive and very much in character.

Author's Response:

It's ugly down in the Mirarchives. I won't post all of it. Some of those stories will never see the light of day, are for my eyes only- and even I don't want to read them. I will be sharing from the Mirarchives a prequel to Wild Horses (o unholy darkness) and adding a second and final chapter to Wild Horses. Winter is coming.

Um. Full-darkJarod was-- a mistake. That one should have never escaped the Mirarchives. It was so dark and something most (normal) people don't readily associate with Jarod and that's why that happened. If it's crazy and veering out of character it beckons the muses. Now you know.

Thank you for reading and reviewing.

Oh squee! Omg. I didn't even know if you'd gotten the email from me and this!! I didn't think you would respond. You are such a freaking superstar!! I wouldn't have been mad or anything but... this... THIS! I saw my reply from you and then I saw this and it's like my birthday and Christmas all rolled into one. Yes! Mirage what else in the hell are you freaking hiding from your fandomly?!!!  THIS is the most genius thing I've ever read anywhere in any fandom and that sound... yeah that was you knocking this clear out of the stadium. Nevermind Rebirth and Saving Luke. YOU are what I demand to read. THIS. You could do a whole series on this. I keep thinking of Jarod telling that guy on the Madeline boat that he was once allowed to listen to music and felt that he go anywhere.. and that just ties into this so well.  Why have you never shared this with us?! OMG. Why hasn't Craig and Steven hired you to help them out. You are a fountain of untapped genius. OMG. I thought Kiss of Death and Combustion were twists... but this... OMG. This. Thank you so much for being you.

Author's Response:

Ah, you're responsible for this, are you? I'm hiding all sorts of secrets from the fandomly.

Thank you for reading and reviewing.

Lacks TWISTS? This is the definition of a twist! A masterful re-imaging!

Thank you as always for keeping Miss Parker, Jarod and the Pretender alive!

And kudos to whomever encouraged you to post this.

You're incredibly kind to me. Thank you as always for reading, Twisted, and for the generous review. It's much appreciated.
