Part 1
SAILING
By A.H. Crocker

Scene 1

Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean

Jarod(passing as Jarod Cousteau) was sitting on the bow of the ship. The ship was called The Gull. He and the others on board were protesting the whaling that had been going on. They weren't having any luck. If they found a pod of whales on radar, they would only find the sea red with blood and no sign of the whalers. Jarod was determined to fix that problem.

Jarod had made friends with a man named Jack and his six year old boy, Jason. Jason seemed disturbed by something and he started to walk over to him but he was interupted by Matt Bennett, the ship's captian.

"Mister Cousteau." Matt called.

"Call me, Jarod." Jarod said. " Sir,we have a smal pod on radar. By the looks of the pod, I'd say they were orcas."

"Really?" Matt said.

"I believe so." Jarod said and then to the crew he said" Ok, let's get this ship moving."

The captian smiled and walked to back to his cabin. He pulled out a cellphone and dialed a number.

"Greg, the pod is about 20miles due east. Make sure there's nothing there to track on radar." Matt said.

"Yes Sir." Greg said.

What Matt didn't know was that little Jason was hiding under the captian's bed. Matt left and Jason crawled out from under the bed and ran to find Jarod.

Scene 2

The Centre
Blue Cove, Deleware

Miss Parker had just left her office and she ran into her brother, Mr. Lyle. He started tormenting her as soon as he saw her.

"Another successful day?" Lyle said.

"Shut up." Miss Parker said cruelly and left.

Just as she left, her cellphone rang. She answered the phone in her normal Miss Parker fasion.

"What?" Miss Parker said.

"How's it going with Thomas?" Jarod said.

"How the hell do you know about that" Miss Parker said, almost screaming.

"Calm down, Miss Parker. I got my information from Sydney. He keeps me up to date on what's happening at the Centre. I also know someone that Thomas is related to." Jarod said.

"What do you mean?" Miss Parker said.

"I had brother and I have a sister, You have a brother, and Sydney had a brother." Jarod said.

"Do you mean Thomas has a sibling?" Miss Parker asked.

"Why don't you find out?" Jarod said and hung up.

"Jarod?" Miss Parker asked."I hate it when he does that."

Miss Parker had a date with Thomas that night. She would ask him then about his family.

Scene 3

Back on The Gull

"Jarod!" Jason cried.

"Hey Jason, how's it going? Are you ready to help save those whale's?" Jarod asked him.

"You won't find them. There's a traitor on the ship and I know who it is." Jason said, in a state of panic.

"Calm down. Now, who is the traitor?" Jarod asked the young boy.

"It's Matt Bennett." Jason said.

"Are you sure?" Jarod asked.

"Yes, I was hiding in the captian's cabin when he made a call to the whalers." Jason said.

Jarod thought about it for a moment and knew that Jason was telling the truth.

"Jason, go find your father and tell him that the whalers will find the pod in 20 minutes. We have to be there in 15 if we have any hope of finding those whales." Jarod said.

"All right." Jason said.

Scene 4

Redwaves resteraunt

Miss Parker went with Thomas to a nice resteraunt just outside of Blue Cove. As they were sitting, waiting for their meal, Thomas brought up the subject of Miss Parker's family.

"You seem to have a nice family." Thomas said.

"Yeah, a killer for a brother, a liar for a father, and a bimbo who tried to kill my father for a step-mother. Nice family." Miss Parker said with a laugh.

"I didn't know that your brother was a killer." Thomas said, seeming a little surprised.

"Yeah, we're all just one big happy family. How about you, Tommy? Do you have any family?" Miss Parker asked.

"Not really. My dad died when I was ten and my mom just dumped me and my brother in an orphanage. Some old guy adopted us and when he died he left Patrick the house to take of me." Thomas said.

"So, where's Patrick now?" iss Parker asked him.

Thomas hesitated and then said "Parker, my brother's in the hospital and the doctors say that he might die."

"Tommy, why didn't you tell me?" Miss Parker asked.

"I was too scared to tell you. I don't know what to do." Thomas said.

"I think I do."Miss Parker said.

"What do you mean?" Thomas asked.

"I have an idea. I have a friend who is a very successful doctor. I can have him come here and see what's wrong with Pat." Miss Parker said.

"Really, what's his name?" Thomas asked.

"Jarod." Miss Parker said, smiling.

Scene 5

Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, Again

Jarod was speeding The Gull out at sea. Just as the ship found the pod, the whalers showed up. Matt and Jack were talking when Jarod rushed into the room, sounding out of breath.

"Jack," Jarod said, panting. "we found the pod and we ar between them and the whalers."

"Great, let's go Jarod." Jack said.

The two hurried out to the bow of the great ship. Jarod shouted and waved his arms at the whalers.

Jack shouted."Go away. This whales are protected by law!"

"They don't care." a voice from behind them said.

Matt Bennett hit Jack on the head with the butt of his gun. Jack fell overboard and into the rough sea.

"Jack!" Jarod shouted

Jarod tried to jump off the boat to save Jack but Matt grabbed him and put his gun to Jarod's chest.

"Don't move or I swear I'll kill you." Matt said and to the crew he said

"Turn this ship around or I'll kill him."

The crew did as they were told. Whenever the crew hesitated, Matt moved the gun into point blank range. His trigger finger shaking, ready to pull the trigger at any moment. Jarod didn't move but he did speak.

"What about Jack?"

"Forget him and shut up if you want to live to see tomorrow." Matt said.

Scene 6

Over the Atlantic

Miss Parker and Thomas were in a helicopter out over the ocean looking for The Gull. So far they weren't having any luck. Miss Parker was trying to call Jarod but he wasn't answering his cellphone.

"Do you think he can help my brother?" Thomas said.

"Yes, but he must be in trouble because he's not answering his cellphone." Miss Parker said.

The helicopter pilot reported that they finally found the ship. The helicopter landed on the far end of the ship and Miss Parker and Thomas stepped out. The helicopter turned off its engines so as not to disturb the crew. The two crept quietly down towards the bow of the ship. They saw Matt and the gun first. Only after that did they see who it was pointed at. It was Jarod. Miss Parker had no idea what to do but Thomas did. They put their plan into action. Thomas heard a cry from Jarod as Miss Parker crept up behind Matt. Matt had hit Jarod hard in the chest.

"Well, now that Jack is in the great deep, I guess I can get rid of this little spy." Matt said, pointing to Jason.

Once again, Jarod couldn't anything, because Matt's gun was still at his chest. Even though Jarod couldn't do anything, Thomas and Miss Parker could. Miss Parker hit Matt on the head with a pipe that she found on the deck. He collapsed to the floor. Jarod, now free, ran and dove into the water after Jack.

"Jarod!" Jason cried.

"Help!" Jarod said.

When Matt hit him, he must have been more hurt than he thought. He was now drowning, along with Jack who was still alive. Jason ran over to the side and did a perfect swandive into the water.

"Jason!" Thomas cried.

"Thomas what are you doing?" Miss Parker said.

She noticed him taking off his shoes and coat.

"I'm going in after them." Thomas said.

Thomas jumped into the ice cold water and grabbed Jack and Jarod with the help of Jason, who could swim perfectly. The two pulled the two men back to the ship.

"Thomas!" Miss Parker cried.

After they revived Jack and Jarod, they got right down to business. Jarod had panicked and started to run away, shouting the whole time.

"I'm not going back to the Centre, Miss Parker." Jarod shouted.

"Jarod I'm not here to take you back. I'm here for Thomas." Miss Parker explained.

"Why does he need me?" Jarod said.

Miss Parker was about to say something really cruel to Jarod, but Thomas stopped her.

"Jarod, I need you to help save my brother's life." Thomas said.

"Then I'll do it." Jarod said.

"Why are you so quick to decidesomething like this?" Thomas asked.

"I wasn't able to save my own brother's life and I've been blaming myself for it for the past eight months." Jarod said. "Also, saving your brother might help me deal with the loss of Kyle."

"Kyle? Was that your brother's name?" Thomas asked.

"Yes. He died protecting me. Before he died, he said he was sorry for everything. I never understood what he meant by that." Jarod said, eyes filling with tears.

"It's ok, Jarod." Thomas said.

"I'm sorry to break up this scene but we have to get to the hospital." Miss Parker said.

"All right. Hold on for a second.

Jarod grabbed the still unconscious Matt and locked him in an empty storage room.

"Now he won't cause any problems." Jarod told them.

Scene 8

Jarod rushed into the hospital and walked to the front desk. He introduced himself as Dr. Collins to the lady at the front desk. She said that Mr. Gates's room was down in the left wing.

"How can he do that?" Thomas asked.

"He's a pretender." Miss Parker said.

"A pretender?" Thomas asked.

"I'm a genius who can be anyone he wants to be." Jarod said.

"Here's Pat's room." Thomas said.

Scene 9

The trio walked silently into Pat's room. There were to others in room with him. One was a teenage girl and a younger boy about Jason's age. In the other bed was Patrick. Pat was a young man of twenty-one, who looked very sick in his bed. Thomas walked silently up to the young man, clinging to Miss Parker the whole time. Jarod took the time to check the charts. Thomas gentlely shook the young man to wake him.

"Hey Tom, what are you doing here?" Pat said in a very weak voice.

"Just came to see how you're doing." Thomas said.

"I'm fine. Hey, who's he?" Pat asked.

"He's the man who's going to save your life." Thomas said.

"The doctors here told me it was too late to do anything." Pat said, starting to cry.

"Don't start crying, Pat. You're he only family I got left. I can't lose you." Thomas said.

Thomas sat down on the chair in the corner and started to cry. Miss Parker sat next to him and hugged him, trying to comfort him. Jarod walked up to them.

"Thomas, can I talk to you outside. Alone." Jarod said.
"Sure." Thomas said. To Parker he said. "I'll be right back."

He kissed Miss Parker and walked outside with Jarod. Jarod waited until he was sure that they were alone to tell him the news.

"So, what's up, Jarod?" Thomas asked.

"Pat needs a kidney transplant. You're a match but there's a big risk in doing the surgery." Jarod said.

"What's the risk?" Thomas said. He didn't seem to be scared at all.

"You have a kidney condition. It's a condition in which both kidneys are very sensitive. The risk is that you could die during or after the surgery." Jarod said.

"What?" a voice said behind them.

Miss Parker had just walked out of Pat's room and overheard the last part of their conversation. She just starred at them for a minute then ran down the hall, crying.

Scene 10

Miss Parker ran down the right wing of the hospital towards the waiting room. She sat down and her hands were shaking as she pulled out her cellphone. She dialed a familiar number and she was waiting for the familiar voice.

"This is Sydney."

"Syd, it's me."

"Parker, are you all right?"

"I'm fine. Thomas's brother Pat needed a kidney transplant and Thomas was a match. But Jarod said...." Miss Parker said.

"Jarod?" Sydney asked.

"Yes, he said that Thomas might not live through the surgery." Miss Parker said.

"Is Thomas going to go through with it?" Sydney asked.

"Yes and Syd I have to go." Miss Parker said.

"All right." Sydney said.

"Bye Syd."

"Bye."

Scene 11

Jarod prepared Thomas for surgery. It lasted about three hours and Jarod was very tired by the end of it. He had done the surgery himself. After Thomas was settled in his room, Jarod went to see Miss Parker. She was still awake and had a single tear running down her face. He walked over to her and touched her shoulder. She turned to face him.

"How is he?" Miss Parker asked as Jarod sat down next to her.

"He lived through the surgery but it's still to early to tell if he'll make it or not." Jarod said.

Miss Parker grabbed Jarod's hand and held it. She then leaned on Jarod's shoulder and started to cry again. Jarod held her and tried to comfort her.

"I have to go check on Thomas. You'll be able to go see him in about an hour." Jarod said and left.

"Ok."

Scene 12

Jarod walked into Thomas's room. It was silent except for the sound of Thomas's monitors. Jarod checked the charts and turned to leave when Thomas started talking.

"Parker?" Thomas whispered.

"No. It's me, Thomas." Jarod said.

"Jarod?"

"Yes."

"Jarod, I want to see Parker. Can you get her for me?"

"Sure, Thomas."

Scene 13

"How's my brother doing?" Pat asked.

Pat had just been released from his room and was sitting with Miss Parker. He had a comforting hand on her shoulder and she had stopped crying. She still had a look of despair on her face. Pat was on the verge of crying as well.

"Thomas wants to see you both now." Jarod said.

"I don't know if I can go in there and see him like that." Miss Parker said.

"Come on. I'll stay with you the whole time." Jarod said.

The three walked into Thomas's room. He was put in the same bed that Pat used to be in. It was silent until Pat broke the silence.

"I never thought I'd be the one to see you in the hospital."

"It's ok. I'm just glad to see you alive." Thomas said.

Miss Parker came up to the bed from behind Jarod and Patrick. She couldn't stop from crying.

"Don't cry, Miss Parker." Thomas said. "I hope you understand why I had to do this."

"I understand, Tommy." Miss Parker said.

"Sorry to interupt but we need to leave now. Thomas needs his rest to get better." Jarod said.

"Ok."

Miss Parker, Pat, and Jarod left the hospital room.

Scene 14

Jarod walked out of the room and went down the hall to where Miss Parker and Pat were sitting. He smiled and walked up to a crying Miss Parker.

"Hey, it's ok. I have something to tell you both." Jarod said.

"What." Pat and Miss Parker said at the same time.

"He's going to be fine. The chemical substance that was killing him is disappearing. He should be fine." Jarod said.

"Oh, Jarod, thank you so much! I can never begin to thank you. What can I do to repay you?" Miss Parker said.

"Well there is one thing you could you do." Jarod said.

"Sure, what is it?" Miss Parker said.

"Could you stop calling me Boy Wonder and stuff like that? Just call me Jarod." Jarod said.

"Sure."

Just then, a nurse came running down the hall. She seemed really scared and was calling Jarod.

"Dr. Collins! Dr. Collins!"

"Kate, what's wrong?" Jarod said.

"Mr. Gates went flatline." Kate said

"Damn." Jarod muttered and ran down the hall, through the door, and started working to get Thomas's heart started again.

While Jarod was working to save Thomas, Miss Parker was talking to the young boy. The boy's name was Sean and he was in the hospital because he was hit by a car while riding his bike.

"He was muttering something about a man named Jarod. He also muttered the word Parker." Sean said. "After that he passed out and I rang the alarm."

"Miss Parker, I have him back." Jarod annouced.

"You saved his life, Sean." Miss Parker.

"No, I didn't. Jarod did." Sean said

"No, you did save his life by sounding the alarm. Otherwise he would have died and I thank you for that." Miss Parker said.

Anytime." Sean replied.

"Miss Parker, could you come here?" Jarod called from across the room.

She turned and walked towards him. Thomas smiled as she aproached the bed. She turned to look at Jarod and smiled. She knew that by tommorrow he'd be gone, off to another state. Jarod turned to leave but Miss Parker stopped him.

"Jarod." He turned to face her.

"Thanks." she said.

Scene 15

But Miss Parker was wrong. Jarod wasn't gone. He was back on the Gull with Jack and Jason. He saw that Jason was sitting on the wooden boards of the bow playing cards. Jason looked up from his game to see Jarod walking up to him.

"Jarod!" Jason shouted and ran up to greet him.

"Jason, how's it going?" Jarod said.

"I'm fine."

"What's that your playing?" Jarod asked. He had never seen it before.

"Solitaire."

"Do you think you can teach me how to play?" Jarod asked.

"Sure." Jason said.

"Hold on a second. I have someone for you to meet." Jarod said.

"Who?" Jason said.

"You'll see."

"Come on, Jarod. No surprises." Jason said.

Jarod led Jason down to the other side of the ship. Looking out over the side of the shipwas Sean. Jarod had found out that Jason and Sean were best friends.

"Sean?"

"Jason?"

The two stared at each other and then laughed and started to play cards.

"Wait, I'm not done with the surprise yet. Look out there." Jarod said, pointing out to sea.

"I see nothing." Sean said.

"Wait a few seconds. One...Two...Three...Now!"

Just then three orcas jumped out of the water. They were a flash of black and white and then they were gone.

"You know those two little ones? I adopted them for you." Jarod said.

"You mean they're ours?"

"Yes."

"Jarod." Jack called.

"Hey Jack."

"Jarod, I just want to thank you for everything you've done."

"It's no problem. If you ever want to get in touch with me, here's my number." Jarod said and turned to leave.

Jack looked at the card Jarod gave him. He opened the card and looked at the number. It read 1-207-956-0436. Jack knew by the area code that Jarod was headed for Maine.

Long Way from Happiness

Rooftop
Portland, Maine

Jarod(passing as Jarod Roberts) was standing on the roof of a hotel in Portland, Maine. In his hands was a red notebook. Inside was an article with the headline "Whalers caught illegaly hunting in Atlantic". Jarod smiled and started to walk down the street. He went into a little corner store to get some PEZ because he was running out. Inside the store he was greeted by a woman in her early thirties. She seemed to be very nice but she also seemed disturbed by something. Jarod had been planning to leave town that day but he decided to stay and help solve this woman's problem. Little did he know what he was getting himself into.

Jarod was staying in an apartment with a young man whose name was Jim. Jim was just out of collage and was sharing the apartment until he started his career.

Later, Jarod went back to the corner store. He was there, not only to help the woman but to buy his young friend some soda. He was greeted again by the woman, whose name was Ann Doyle. She had a terrified look on her face and Jarod asked her what was wrong. She said that her husband had been killed and the guy was caught and put in prison but now he's out and after her. Ann started crying and Jarod said that he would protect her.

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

Miss Parker was sitting in her office talking to Thomas on the phone. She was planning a date wheb Raines wheeled in. She said bye to Thomas and turned to Raines.

"You love dragging your air tank into my personal life, don't you."

"Watch it, Miss Parker."

"Why were you spying on me and Thomas?"

"Protection." Raines said.

"Mine, yours, or the Centre's" Miss Parker said. She stormed out of her office and into Sydney's.

"Now Dr. Wheezy is getting into my personal life."

"Your life is the new gossip around here." Sydney said.

"Shut up, Syd."

Old House
Bangor, Maine

Jarod moved Ann to an old house in Bangor to protect her. Jarod put her in a room and left to make sure the doors were locked. He locked the doors and stopped to listen. The only sound was the sound of the radio in Ann's room. Jarod was going upstairs to his room when he heard Ann scream. He was up the stairs in a flash and ran into her room. When he got there he found a terrified Ann in the corner and some guy trying to get in through the window into the room. Jarod kicked the man back out the window, grabbed Ann, and ran. The man followed them from outside and aimed his gun at the shadows in the windows. He shot at them three times. Two of those three missed.

Jarod screamed. The bullet hadn't it the right target. It had hit Jarod in the side. He fell and luckly fell into a chair.

"Jarod!" Ann screamed. Thinking that he had shot her, the man disappeared, leaving behind a terrified Ann and an injured Jarod. Ann tried to help Jarod but she couldn't do much to help him.

"Hang on, Jarod. I'll call for help." she said

"Sydney, Call Sydney." Jarod said weakly.

He was losing a lot of blood. She had to get help quick. She thought that maybe Sydney was a doctor. She quickly hit the speed dial on Jarod's cellphone and waited for an answer. Miss Parker answered the phone.

"What?"

"Is Sydney there?" Ann said.

"Yeah hold on." Miss Parker said to her. To Sydney she said. "Syd, there's a panicked woman on line one." Sydney grabbed the phone.

"This is Sydney."

"Sydney. My name's Ann."

"What's the matter?"

"Jarod's been shot. I need a doctor and Jarod told me to call you."

"Where are you?" Sydney asked.

"I'm in Bangor."

"Maine?" Sydney asked.

"Yes." Ann replied.

"How did it happen?" Sydney asked.

"Jarod was protecting me and he got shot when someone tried to kill me." Ann said.

"Get him to a doctor and he will live. Do it now or he'll die." Sydney told her and she did.

Old House
Bangor, Maine

"Thank you, Ann. You saved my life. Now I can figure out what to do about your ex-husband." Jarod said.

"My ex-husband? What does he have to do with this?" Ann said.

"It was Chris Adams, your ex-husband, who killed your husband and shot me." Jarod said.

"I told Chris it was over. The marriage was over and he said that I would be sorry. I didn't think he was serious." Ann said

"It's ok. I have a plan to catch him."

They discussed the plan and then they left the old house. Ann told Jarod that Chris worked for a real estate company and that he had a summer house in Kennebunk. She said that Chris would be there. Jarod grabbed his gun and they left the house.

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

"I know where Jarod is." Sydney said as he walked into Miss Parker's
office.

"Where?"

"Maine."

"Let's go. Drag Broots along as well.

Chris's Summer Home
Kennebunk, Maine

Jarod crept into Chris's summer house, diarmed the security system, and crawled back out again. He looked for Chris's bedroom from outside. He found it and climbed throught the window, gun drawn. Chris saw him and ran. Jarod followed him, shooting at him the whole time. Chris then tripped over the rug and Jarod turned on a light. Chris was scared.

"Please don't kill me." Chris begged.

"Why not? You did, after all, kill Ann Doyle's husband like this." Jarod said.

"Yes, I did." Chris said spotting his own gun on the table. In a quick movement, he kicked Jarod's gun out of his hands and pointed his gun, point blank, at Jarod. "and I can kill you the same way."

"What are you going to do, shoot me again?" Jarod shouted.

"What do you mean, again?" Chris asked.

"You were planning on killing Ann but what you didn't know was that I was there to protect her. Instead of shooting her you shot me." Jarod said and kicked Chris and grabbed both guns. Ann came out of the room across the hall with the tape recorder. "It's over Chris."

Ann's Store
Portland, Maine

The next day, Jarod went to the corner store. A song by Elton John was playing on the radio. It was call A Long Way From Happiness.

"Thank you, Jarod. Without your help I'd probably be dead right now." Ann said.

"It was no problem." Jarod said.

"I'm also sorry about you getting shot."Ann said.

"That's ok. That was nothing. I've had a gun pointed at me so many times that I've lost count."

Just then, a Centre van pulls up and out of it came Miss Parker, Sydney, Broots. They walked into the little store.

"You never saw me." Jarod said as he ran out the back door.

"Have you seen this man?" Miss Parker asked, holding up a pictuer of Jarod.

"No, but maybe my son has. Jim!" Ann called.

"Yeah."

"Have you seen this man?"

"Yeah, he left about an hour ago to catch a plane. He left me something to give to a woman named Parker.

"Can I see it?" Miss Parker asked.

"Sure." Jim said.

Jim gave Miss Parker an envelope. She opened it to find a picture inside. It was a picture of a horse.

Long Way from Happiness
By Elton John

I guess your okay
You seem to feel better these days
I've known you for so long
I've seen your brightness go from blue to grey

You know that it's true
You can shake your head but I can prove
I've seen things through your eyes
You think you win but in the end you lose

And there's no second guess
We take no second bets
Chances are we're a long way from happiness
Don't cover up the road to love with words that can express
The truth implies your high and dry
And your a long way from happiness

I'm one step behind
Looking out for you all the time
I'll put my faith in you
And steer you clear of love that leaves you blind

And there's no second guess
We take no second bets
Chances are we're a long way from happiness
Don't cover up the road to love with words that can express
The truth implies your high and dry
And your a long way from happiness

Live Like Horses
By A.H. Crocker

Green River, Wyoming

Jarod was riding on a dark gray Arabian stallion. As he was riding through the fields, he was reading his red notebook. Inside was an article on his last pretend. The article's headline was"Killer caught in Kennebunk." Jarod decided to start heading back to the ranch he was staying at when he heard the sound of a thousand running horses. He was right. It wasn't a thousand but there had to be at least a hundred wild horses runnning. Behind them was a masked person on an ATV. The man was stampeding the horses out of the fields and they were heading towards Jarod. Jarod turned his horse around and it ran like mad. He was trying to get away when his horse threw him and took off. Jarod was right in the path of the horses. He had landed right on his back and the breath was knocked out of him. Jarod knew that if the horses reached him, he would be killed. He caught his breath and tried to climb up a small rockface when the horses came. He tried to get out of the way but they were too close. The horses trampled over and left behind an unconscious, mangled Jarod.

Red Sands Ranch
Green River, Wyoming
"He been out there too long. I'm starting to get worried." Rachel said. Rachel was a guide at the ranch. Jarod was helping her discover why the wild mustangs were disappearing. "Take my horse and go out and look for him." Rachel sent her husband Tony out to find Jarod."Don't worry. I'll find him."

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

Miss Parker was down in SL-27 with Broots, Sydney, and Angelo. Broots was scared as usual. Sydney was wondering why Miss Parker dragged him down here. Angelo kept quiet until Sydney heard him mutter something.

"I decided who lives or dies."

"What's he saying Syd." Miss Parker said.

"Kyle must have been here." Sydney said.

Somewhere in Green River

Jarod came to near the edge of a forest. He couldn't move either of his legs and one of his arms was broken. He found his bag and took out the first-aid kit. He used the bandages to fix his arm. Jarod knew that he could last out there for three days. Any longer and the people who found him would not see him alive.

"Can anybody hear me? Help!" Jarod screamed. The only sound that returned was the whistling of the wind. The screaming had taken up his remaining strength. Jarod sighed and tried to keep himself awake as he lost consciousness.

Unfortunately, Tony didn't hear Jarod's cries. He was about 25 miles away. He had checked all the trails and there was no sign of Jarod or his horse. He decided to head back to the ranch when he spotted a figure in the woods. He couldn't see the man's face. All he saw was a flash of blue. Tony's cellphone started to ring and he forgot all about the man.

"Hello."

"Tony,have you found Jarod yet?"

"No, I haven't. Have you had any word from him?"

"He must be hurt because I found his horse."

"His horse?"

"It came running through the woods about an hour ago.

"Well, I'm heading back and I'll start the search again tomorrow." Tony said.

Still in Green River

Jarod was falling in and out of consciousness. He knew that he had to get help soon or he wouldn't make it. Night was falling and it was getting dark fast. Jarod tried one last time to scream.

"Can anybody hear me?"

A man walking in the shadows of the night heard the cries. He had a picture of Jarod in his hand.

"Jarod." the man whispered and started to run to where he heard the screams. When the man got there, he found a dirty, mangled Jarod. Jarod was barely conscious but he managed to raise his head to look at the man.

"Kyle?" Jarod whispered.

"Yes. Hang on. I'm going to get you out of here. It's going to be ok now." Kyle said. He couldn't move Jarod on account of his injuries but he did try to comfort him.

"Do you know the number of the ranch?" Kyle asked.Jarod told him the number and Kyle called on Jarod's cellphone. Rachel answered the phone.

"Tony?"

"No, my name's Kyle. I found Jarod."

"Who are you?"

"I'm his brother. Please just trust me. He needs help."

"Where are you?"

"We're about 10 miles east of the ranch. Please hurry."

They were found and Jarod was taken to a hospital. Jarod woke up an hour later and found out that Kyle was gone. He sat up and sighed. He thought that seeing Kyle was just a dream.

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

"Kyle was down here?" Miss Parker asked.

"Guys, look what I found." Broots said.

Sydney and Miss Parker walked towards Broots. He had opened a small cabinet and out of it fell at least 35 blue notebooks. All of them had different dates on them. Some were of Jarod while he was still in the Centre. Others were of when he escaped but what surprised Sydney was when he opened one of the notebooks. Inside was a picture of a van and an explosion. Then there was another picture of Kyle crawling away while a saddened Jarod was screaming "NO!"

"Oh my God." Sydney muttered.

"What is it Syd?" Miss Parker asked.

"Kyle's alive"

"What?"

"It's true. Look at this." Sydney showed her another blue notebook. Inside was a picture of Jarod in his hospital bed. "Look at the date. It's todays date. So he was down here today. He might still be down here. Kyle left this for us to see. He wants us to know he's alive but does Jarod know he's alive." Sydney said as his cellphone started to ring.

"This is Sydney."

"Do you miss your brother, Sydney?"

"Jarod."

"I miss my brother so much I started seeing visions of him. I was trampled by a stampede of horses and I thought that I would die if no one found me in time. I saw a vision of Kyle and he saved my life. I woke up in a hospital and he was gone."

"Jarod, I have to tell you something."
"What is it Sydney?"

"Jarod, Kyle's still alive."

"Sydney, please don't get my hopes up. I know it's not true. My brother died and it's my fault for not doing something to help."

Kyle came from behind Sydney and grabbed the phone.

"Jarod, it's true. I'm still alive."

"Kyle?"

"Yes, I'm still alive and I'm in the Centre."

"What. Kyle get out of there!" Jarod shouted.

"Don't worry. The only people who know I'm here are Broots, Sydney, and Miss Parker. I know they won't tell anyone. I'll explain everything when I get to you." Kyle said.

"Please be careful, Kyle." Jarod said.

"Don't worry about me." Kyle said and hung up.

Kyle ran to get out of the Centre. He turned to go around a corner and out from the shadows stepped Raines.

"Going somewhere Kyle." Raines wheezed.

"Yes."

"I don't think so." Raines said and drew his gun. From behind Raines came Willie. He also had his gun drawn, pointed point blank at Kyle's chest.

"I'm not scared of you or your guns. I won't go willingly. I would rather die then stay here." Kyle yelled, hoping someone would hear it.

"I hope we can work something without going as far as killing you but if comes to that I wouldn't even hesitate to kill you." Raines said in a threatening voice.

Green River Hospital,
Green River, Wyoming

Jarod was getting worried about Kyle. He was supposed to be there an hour ago. Jarod knew that he had to be in trouble but he didn't know if he was out of the Centre or not. He decided to call Sydney to find out.

"This is Sydney."

"Is Kyle still there?" Jarod said.

"No, he left a while ago." Sydney replied.

"Well, he never showed up here. I'm worried that he never made it out of the Centre. I think that Raines's sweepers might have him."

"Sydney, could you see if he is still in the Centre?"

"Sure, Jarod. I'll do everthing I can."

"Sydney."

"Yes."

"Please be careful."

"I will."

Down in SL-27

"Keep moving." Raines said. He had put his gun away. Willie's gun was enough to handle Kyle. Willie had his gun to Kyle's back, ready to kill him if he even thought of trying something.

"Don't stop or I'll make sure Jarod gets to see your lifeless body." Raines threatened.

"I won't give you any trouble. It's not that I'm scared of getting killed. I'll keep moving only because my brother felt the pain of losing me once. I won't put Jarod through that kind of pain again." Kyle said.

Miss Parker's office

"So you think Kyle is still in the Centre." Miss Parker was sitting at her office when Sydney and Broots ran in and started talking about Jarod's phonecall. She knew that it had to be Raines that had Kyle if he was still here.

"Yes. I'm sure he's still here. I just don't know where." Sydney said.

"Take Broots down to SL-27 and try to find Raines and Kyle. I've got a feeling that Raines is going to finish what he started and if he succeeds we all are in danger. The person who is in the most danger is Jarod." Miss Parker said. "Don't let yourself be seen when you find them. We will help him when Raines leaves. One thing is for certain, Raines cannot succeed."

SL-27

Kyle was pushed into a room by Willie. Raines left two sweepers in front of his door. Inside Kyle sat on the bed and sighed. He had to get out of there but how. He laid down on the bed, trying to think of a way to get out when a blue notebook fell from the ceiling, almost hitting him in the head.

"Hey." Kyle said.

Kyle's voice made one of the sweepers look into the room. Kyle closed his eyes and pretended to be having nightmares. The sweeper just stared at him for a moment and then turned away, unconcerned.

After the sweeper left, Kyle looked up at the ceiling. He saw a smiling Angelo staring at him from inside the vents. Kyle had an idea and he climbed up into the vents. He crawled out until he found himself staring at Miss Parker, Sydney, and Broots inside Sydney's office. Miss Parker was trying to make sense of the whole thing.

"What the hell is going on here, Syd? Why couldn't you find Kyle and Raines?"

"I told you Miss Parker. Raines has a room somewhere and I don't know where it is." Sydney said.

Kyle decided, at that time, to get into the conversation. He dropped out of the vent and landed right next to Broots.

"Hi. Did you miss me?"

"Kyle?"

Sydney's cellphone started ringing and there was a knock at Sydney's door. Kyle climbed back into the vent and Sydney answered the door. It was Raines. He glanced around the room and just glared at Sydney. The phone was still ringing.

"Are you going to answer that?" Raines said.

Miss Parker stepped out from behind Sydney and stood right in Raines's face. All she did was glare at him and Raines decided to leave before he got hurt. After Broots made sure Raines was gone, Sydney answered the phone.

"Was Raines in the office?"

"Yes, Jarod. Your safe to talk now." Sydney asked.

"Did you find my brother? Where's Kyle?" Jarod asked.

"He's...." Sydney was suddenly inturupted when Kyle grabbed the phone away from Sydney.

"You know I'm really starting to get sick of you." Sydney muttered.

"Jarod, it's me." Kyle said. "I'm on my way."

Red Sands Ranch
Green River, Wyoming

Jarod was sitting in his wheelchair, waiting for Kyle to show up. He hoped that nothing else happened to him. Just then a shadow appeared in the distance. It was a shadow of a man on a horse. Jarod smiled as the shadow got closer.

"Kyle!" Jarod called.

"Hey, Jarod. How's it going?" Kyle answered.

"Not bad. My legs still hurt a little bit but other then that, I'm fine. I also want to thank you for saving my life out there. After I called Sydney and found out that you were still in the Centre, I thought I'd never see you again."

"It was Angelo who saved me. If it weren't for him I would have never gotten out of there. Raines and Willie had their guns pointed at me and forced me into a room in SL-27. They were ready to kill me when Angelo showed me the way out." Kyle explained.

"After my legs heal where do you want to go?" Jarod asked.

"Let's go to New York. I have always wanted to go there." Kyle said.

"Sure. We'll work for then NYPD." Jarod said.

"NYPD?" Kyle asked.

"It's the New York Police Department." Jarod said, smiling.

Live Like Horses
By
Elton John

I can't control this flesh and blood
That's wrapped around my bones
It moves beneath me like a river
Into the great unknown
I stepped onto the moving stairs
Before I could tie my shoes
Pried a harp out of the fingers of a renegade
Who lived and died the blues
And his promise made made was never clear
It just carved itself in me
All I saw was frost inside my head
On the night he said to me

Someday we'll live like horses
Free reign
>From your old iron fences
There's more way than one
To regain your senses
Break out the stalls and live like horses

We're victims of the heartbreak
That keeps us short of breath
Trapped above these bloodless streets
Without a safety net
I tood in line to join the tribe
One more customer of fate
Claimed a spoke in the wheel of the wagon train
On the Road to the golden gate
On the flat dry desert I jumped ship
It just made senseto me
I've spent to long in the belly of the beast
and now I shall be free

Someday we'll live like horses
Free reign
>From your old iron fences
There's more way than one
To regain your senses
Break out the stalls and live like horses

Part 4
CAN'T STOP THIS THING WE (I) STARTED
By A.H. Crocker

Glens Falls - New York

Jarod and Kyle had just left the office of the NYPD. They had a busy day. Three big cases solved in one day. Both Jarod and Kyle were very tired and were on their way to their apartment when Jarod got a call on his cellphone.

"Hello." Jarod said.

"Jarod, this is Kate. We have a hostage situation at the old warehouse on Byer Rd."

"Okay Kate, we're on our way." Jarod replied.

"Jarod, there's something else. The guy who's holding the hostages said for you to come alone. Be careful." Kate told him.

"Don't worry. I'll be fine." Jarod said as he hung up.

"What is it, Jarod?" Kyle asked.

"Looks like we have one more case to solve before we can rest." Jarod said.

"Great." Kyle muttered.

Byer Rd Warehouse - Glens Falls, New York

The two brothers reached the warehouse and crept quietly inside. Kyle kept a few feet behind Jarod. They had no idea who or what was waiting for them as they walked further into the building. Also Kyle didn't know it, but someone was following him.

Kyle was walking behind Jarod when suddenly he saw Jarod stumble and fall to the floor. He bent over Jarod and saw blood running from his forehead. He grabbed his cell phone and started dialling when he saw the flash of a pipe. He tried to dodge it but it hit him right in the back of the head. Kyle fell to the floor, unconscious.

"Well, well, well, what have we here? It's Jarod and his little brother. I thought I killed him. Oh Well, I can take care of that later."

Jarod woke up to find himself tied up and face to face with Lyle. Jarod looked around and couldn't find Kyle anywhere. He saw spots of blood on the floor and panicked.

"Where's Kyle? What did you do with my brother?" Jarod shouted.

"He's unconscious and tied up in the other room." Lyle explained. At first Jarod sighed with relief. Jarod then noticed something weird in Lyle's voice. There was something wrong and he knew it.

"If you hurt him Lyle. I swear I'll kill you." Jarod said, with a touch of anger in his voice. Lyle just stood there and grinned. He walked up to Jarod and slapped him hard across the face.

"I won't hurt him as long as you behave yourself and do what I tell you. No pretender tricks. I have to say that I am surprised to see him alive. Although I didn't exactly mean to hurt him last time." Lyle said.

"You'll hurt him this time, won't you." Jarod said.

"Without a second thought." Lyle smirked.

"What do you want from me?" Jarod asked, seeming afraid of the answer.

"I want to finish what I started in Arizona and this time your brother isn't here to help you." Lyle said.

Across the Hall in the Byer Rd Warehouse, - Glens Falls New York

Kyle woke up to find himself tied up to a chair. There was no sign of Jarod at all.

"Jarod?" he called out. He didn't want to shout too loud so that someone else heard him. As he was lost in his thoughts, someone dropped from the beams on the ceiling.

"Ahh..." Kyle screamed. His scream was cut short by a gloved hand that was clamped over his mouth.

"Shut up you idiot or your going to get us both killed." the person said. From the voice, Kyle could tell that the person was a woman.

"Who are you?" Kyle asked.

"You don't know me, Kyle?" the woman asked.

"No, I don't." Kyle said.

"Oh well, I'll tell you later but right now we have to help Jarod." she said.

"Where is he? Is he okay?" Kyle asked, afraid of the answer.

"He's fine for now but we have to work fast to save him" she said as she turned to leave.

"Hey, aren't you going to untie me." Kyle whined

"No, I need him to think you are still helpless." the woman said as she left the room.

Once again in the Byer Rd Warehouse - Glens Falls, New York

"Lyle, let me go. I'm not going to help you." Jarod cried out.

"Then I'll kill your brother." Lyle said. Lyle walked around the corner and Jarod lost sight of him for a minute. When he returned, dragging a helpless Kyle behind him.

"Kyle!" Jarod shouted.

"Jarod!" Kyle cried.

"Kyle, he's going to kill you!"

Lyle decided to cut into this conversation. He stepped in and slapped Jarod across the face with
his gun.

"Actually, I think that I'd rather kill you Jarod." Lyle said.

"Jarod!"

"This time your brother won't stop me." Lyle said as he aimed his gun, point blank, at Jarod's chest. All of a sudden Jarod saw Lyle stumble and fall to the ground. There behind him stood the woman that Kyle was talking to, holding a small pipe.

"Maybe not but his sister will." the woman said.

"Emily?" Jarod asked.

"Yep, it's me." she said with a hint of sarcasm.

"What...huh...how?" Jarod mumbled.

"I'll explain later but the three of us have to get out of here." Emily said, almost laughing when she looked at her older brothers standing there, speechless.

Jarod looked at Lyle laying there on the ground. He became worried when he saw Lyle's battered
face.

"Will he be okay?"

"He'll be fine. I didn't hit him that hard. The big wuss." Emily said.

The Centre - Blue Cove, Delaware

Miss Parker was sitting in her office when her phone rang. She only hoped that it wasn't Jarod. She was not in the mood to deal with him right now.

"What?"

"Miss Parker..." Jarod started to say.

"Jarod please, I'm not in the mood to play one of your games."

"Your not listening, Parker. I found my sister."

"What?" Miss Parker said, shocked.

"Well, she found us actually. Your brother tried to kill us again and she saved are lives." Jarod explained.

"Why did you call me? Why not Sydney?" Miss Parker asked. Jarod never called her with personal events, at least not recently.

"Sydney is away with his family and I didn't want to bother him." Jarod said.

"And what makes you trust me. I can go to daddy right now." Miss Parker said.

"I know you too well. You won't tell him." Jarod said and hung up the phone. Miss Parker sighed. She hated it when Jarod was right.

Green Mountain Apartment Complex - Glens Falls, New York

Emily had gotten Jarod and Kyle back to her apartment. Both Jarod and Kyle were fine except for a bump on their heads. She stared at her brothers for a moment and started laughing.

"What's so funny, Sis?" Kyle asked.

"You two have matching bruises and also the fact that you two have been living in the apartment across from me the whole time you were here." Emily laughed. Jarod and Kyle looked away, humiliated.

Then Emily grew serious again. "We have to get going because I have reason to believe we were followed here."

"Then let's go out the back in case someone is on their way up here." Jarod said. They ran quickly out of the room, just as Miss Parker, Sydney, Broots, and Sam burst into the apartment.

"We'll take my van." Emily said.

"No not the van we'll take my car." Jarod said as they took off. They didn't see the car pull out behind the Jarod's car to follow them.

Back at the apartment

"Damn, I missed them." Miss Parker muttered. Sydney was standing in the window. He saw Jarod's car pull out and speed away but he also saw the other car. It was a black convertible with the license plate that read Lyle-2.

"Miss Parker, Jarod's car just drove away and Lyle's was following them." Sydney said.

"Lyle? That guy is lucky I don't kill him myself, brother or not." Miss Parker said and turned to leave.

Some Road - Just Outside of New York

"Jarod, what are we going to do?" Emily said.

"I don't know!" Jarod shouted "I don't even know where I'm going and I've had this car following me since we left. Sorry, if I'm yelling but I'm scared."

"Of what?" Emily asked. Kyle was asleep so it was just the two of them talking.

"If they catch me I'm afraid that they will kill you two as well as me." Jarod explained.

Lyle suddenly lost his patience with Jarod because he sped up and tried to run Jarod off the road. Jarod slammed on his brakes and Lyle flew past.

"Get out!" Jarod shouted.

"What about Kyle?" Emily asked.

"What about me?" Kyle said.

"Go!" Jarod shouted. The three of them ran into the woods near the road and easily lost Lyle. What they didn't know was that Miss Parker, Sam, Willie, Broots, and Sydney were in the woods hunting them down as well.

"Kyle, take Emily and find a place to hide." Jarod said.

"What about you?" Kyle asked.

"I need them to think I'm alone" Jarod said.

"Them? I thought it was just Lyle." Emily said.

"He may have a few sweepers with him. Don't worry. I'll be fine." Jarod said.

"You haven't been doing a good job of that so far, Jarod." Kyle told him. "How many times have you been hit in the head this week?"

Jarod ignored him and turned to leave when Lyle stepped out from the shadows, gun drawn.

"I'm taking you back to the Centre myself." Lyle said.

"Like hell you will." Miss Parker said and stepped out of the shadows from behind Lyle. Her gun was drawn but it wasn't pointed at Jarod. It was pointed at Lyle. Sydney, Sam , and Willie stepped out from behind her.

"Willie, grab him." Miss Parker ordered.

"My pleasure." Willie replied.

Willie grabbed Jarod and made him drop his gun. Jarod struggled and shouted. No one seemed to notice when Kyle crept out of a nearby tree. He had decided to hide somewhere nearby so he could see if Jarod needed help. Leaving Emily behind, Kyle crept out of the tree and grabbed the gun Jarod had dropped.

"Sydney, don't let this happen. Please, if they take me they'll kill Kyle and Emily. Please." Jarod cried. Tears were welling up in his eyes as he struggled to get away from his captor.

"Emily?" Sydney asked.

Before Sydney could say anything else Kyle came behind Sydney, grabbed him, and held him at gun point.

"Willie, let Jarod go or I'll kill him." Kyle shouted.

"Kyle! No, don't shoot him, please!" Jarod cried.

"Why not, he kept you locked up alone for most of your life." Kyle said.

"Kyle, he's also helped me in so many ways. He helped me find you. Please, I know Raines has done some horrible things to you but Sydney had nothing to do with it." Jarod begged "Let him go, please."

"Willie, let him go. then I want all of you to put your guns down and leave so that the three of us can leave." Kyle said as he put his gun down and pushed Sydney into Miss Parker.

"Sydney, are you okay?" Broots said. They all watched as Jarod, Kyle and Emily turned and left.

"Did you really think he was going to kill you Syd?" Miss Parker asked.

"He would have if Jarod wasn't there. But then if Jarod wasn't there, Kyle wouldn't have been there either." Sydney said.

Back in Jarod's car.

"What is the matter with you? You were going to kill him!" Jarod shouted.

"No, I wasn't. We needed a way out and that was the only way I could think of." Kyle explained.

Jarod started to relax when Emily spoke up. "Guys, I have to leave you."

"Why?" they both said at the same time.

"I have to meet mom somewhere and if you two come along, the Centre will kill you. I don't want that. Meet me at this hotel in a year and we'll reunite with mom and dad." Emily said.

"All right. See in a year. Bye." Jarod said, almost in tears.

"Bye Jarod. Bye Kyle." Emily said.

They watched as Their sister left. When she was gone Jarod turned the car and headed south.

Not Guilty
By A.H. Crocker

San Diego, California

Jarod and Kyle were rushing towards a department store. They had figured out that someone was going to be killed there and they were going to try and stop it. Kyle pulled into the parking lot going at least 70mph.

Jarod told Kyle to go to the police while he went inside. Kyle took off and Jarod walked inside the dark building. When Jarod turned a corner he saw that he was too late. A man's body was laying on the floor in a pool of blood. Jarod checked it for a pulse but he felt none.

Jarod heard the faint sound of sirens as he sighed with relief. The cops will catch the real killer, then he and Kyle could leave. The police came rushing in and one of them knocked Jarod to the ground. Jarod felt his hands being cuffed and he didn't even have a chance to explain when he was shoved into the nearest police car. For some insane reason, Jarod noticed that the radio was still on. It was playing the song 'Not Guilty' by Bryan Adams.

Kyle returned to the store to find cops all over the place. He looked around and when he couldn't find Jarod, he got scared.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" one cop asked.

"Kyle Nason, FBI." Kyle said calmly

"Oh, sorry." the officer said.

"Excuse me, officer. Did they catch the man who did this?" Kyle asked.

"Yes, he's at the California PD."

"Thank you."

California Police Department
San Diego, California

Jarod sat in his prison cell wondering why the hell he was in here. He didn't kill anybody. Just then the door opened and Kyle walked in.

"Kyle!" Jarod said relieved.

"Jarod? What are you doing here?"

"I'm accused of murder." Jarod said, surprisingly calm.

"But your not a killer, Jarod. You were trying to stop it from happening." Kyle said.

"I know but tell that to the donut eater in the next room." Jarod joked.

"Don't worry, brother. I'll get you out of here."

"Please do, that guy in the corner is starting to scare me."

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

Miss Parker was sitting in her office when she heard the familar sound of footsteps outside her door. She only hoped it wasn't her father. She wasn't in the mood to deal with him. Finally, the man entered the room. It was Lyle.

"What the hell are you doing here, Lyle?" Miss Parker asked.

"Well Sis, with an aditude like that I don't think I want to tell you." Lyle laughed and left the office.

California District Court
San Diego, California

Jarod sat in the courtroom. He couldn't believe how quickly they had arranged a trial. He kept thinking ' Where is Kyle?'. The trial started and there was still no sign of him. Jarod had a lawyer but he wasn't doing a good job.

"Your Honor, can I please dismiss my lawyer?" Jarod asked.

"Yes, but how will you be represented?" the judge asked. She was shocked at Jarod's request.

"I will defend myself."Jarod said. He smiled as he saw the shocked look on the judges face.

"How?" the judge asked, waiting for his answer.

"I've been a lawyer before so I know how the system works." Jarod said. The judge looked at Jarod's records and found one thing that would make it harder for Jarod to prove his innocence.

"I didn't kill that man. I was trying to save his life. I'm not a killer." Jarod said.

"Yes, you are. You killed a man named Damon. You not only killed him, you did it in a church." the judge said.

"He was about to kill my friend and about two dozen other people, as well as me. I had to do something." Jarod said.

The judge looked at Jarod like she didn't believe him. Jarod knew that it was a weak defence but he didn't know what else to say.

Kyle was in his car trying to figure out how to help Jarod. He checked his mirror again and saw the same car that he saw for the past hour. Kyle finally decided to pull over and saw that it was Sydney in the other car.

"I got your message and came as soon as I could." Sydney said.

"Thank you, Sydney?" Kyle said.

"So what are we going to do?" Sydney asked.

"Find the real killer."

"How?"

"I think I know."

California District Court
San Diego, California

BANG! The doors of the courtroom slammed open. Everyone in the room turned to see Sydney standing in the doorway. Behind him stood Kyle, who was dragging an unconscious man in the court. They came in the nick of time, just as the judge was telling the verdict. The two stepped into the courtroom.

"Your Honor, please excuse us for barging in like this but, this young man is innocent." Kyle said.

"Who are you?" the judge asked.

"Kyle Nason, FBI and this is my partner Special Agent Sydney Green. We have caught the real killer."

"That is for me to decide." the judge said.

Jarod's cell
San Diego, California

Kyle went to go talk to the judge, while Sydney stayed with Jarod at his cell.

"How did you know I was here?" Jarod asked.

"Your brother sent me a message."

"Where's Miss Parker and Broots?''

"There not here, but I must say that Miss Parker would laugh if she saw you here." Sydney said laughing.

Kyle walked in followed by an officer. "Jarod, you free to go."

"Kyle." Jarod cried as the officer opened the door and he stepped out. Jarod hugged his brother as Sydney watch the two reunite. Then they turned to Sydney.

"Thank you for all your help and if you see Miss Parker give her this." Jarod said and handed Sydney a package. Inside was a small statue of a river ferry.

Who are you to say I'm wrong?
Who are you to say I'm crazy?
Ain't a crime of passion comin' on strong

Do I have to prove my innocence?
Don't need a lawyer with fat degree
Cause if lovin you is against the law
You better lock me up and through away the key

I'm not guilty, baby I'm not
I can't stop this feeling I got
I'm not guilty, cross my heart
Not my fault if I'm falling apart
I'm a right Jack, just watchin' my back cause

The Power

Chapter 1

My name is Tobias.

Just Tobias.

No, I will not tell you my last name or where I live. Not until the Yeerks are gone. We didn't know that this next mission would get us involved with two men that would change our lives. If you are wonder who 'WE' are, I'll tell you.

First there's Jake. He's sort of the leader of the group. He didn't ask to be the leader but he just has the ability to make decisions. He also knows that in making those decisions, any or all of us could be killed. Tom, Jake's brother is a Controller.

Now to Marco. He's sort of the sense of humor in the group. Whenever we are on a mission he's always telling us that the idea is insane. He'll find the humor in any situation, most of the time. Jake is his best friend.

Cassie is the nature lover of the group. Both of her parents are vets so it's hard for her to not love animals. She gets us access to animals to aquire. Jake and Cassie have a thing going with them.

Rachel is the bravest girl I know. Marco calls Rachel Xena, Warrior Princess. The name fits her well. She brave but she can be reckless at times. I still admire her.

Then there is one of the weirdest members of the Animorphs. We call him Ax but his real name is Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill. He's an Andalite. An Andalite is sort of a cross between a blue deer, a scorpian, and a human. He was stuck here on Earth when his ship crashed into the sea. We found him a few months later.

Then there's me. Tobias. I used to be this shy kid who got beat up a lot. Used to be. Now I have wings and spend my time riding the thermals. I'm a red-tailed hawk with the mind of a boy.

I know what your saying. How the heck did you become a hawk? Well, it happened when an Andalite named Elfangor crash landed on Earth. He was Ax's brother, and my real father. He gave me and my friends the power to morph into any animal we touch. You can't stay in morph for more than two hours or you will become trapped. That's what happened to me. But a powerful being called the Ellimist gave me back my morphing powers.

I was out fying one day when I spotted a peregrine falcon. I had a close call that morning with a bobcat and I didn't want a fight with a falcon. But I had a feeling I knew this bird.

I called out.

Jake said.

I said.

Jake said, growing serious.

I asked

Jake said.

I said.

Jake said.

I said and turned a sharp left and flew away to find Ax.

Meanwhile:

Jarod had just come home from a busy day as a tour guide. He was going to ask Kyle if he wanted anything before they left the state but he wasn't there. He walked into the kitchen and saw a mess. It looked like the place had been robbed. Jarod noticed a letter on the table. It said

Dear Lab Rat Jarod,
We have your brother. He's alive but he won't be for long if you don't give yourself up.
Anonymous

Jarod was shocked. He read the letter again and noticed a picture was taped to the back. It was of Kyle locked in his cell with two sweepers on the outside of his door. Jarod knew he had to save him. He packed up and left his apartment.

Chapter 2

"So what are we going to do?" Rachel asked. We were all at Cassie's barn aka Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The cages here were filled with everything from small birds to wolves.

"I think we should fly there and check it out because we need to see if we can sneak in as bugs or if we need to go in another way." Jake said.

"All right, we should go tomorrow. We have an assembly last period, so we can bail out then and have the whole weekend to visit the Centre." Cassie said.

>I need a bug morph, Cassie. Do you think you can get me a fly to aquire?< I asked.

"Sure, Tobias." Cassie said.

Ax had stayed silent. I knew why. He goes along with Jake. He calls Jake his prince.

"Let's vote." Jake said.

In the end it was unanimous. All six of us agreed to go. Actually Marco had disagreed but Rachel pinned him and sat on him until he changed his mind.

Chapter 3

We flew to the Centre. It actually wasn't that far away. We were split up into three teams. One in the front of the building, one out back, and one above it. I was with Rachel, Jake was with Marco, and Cassie was with Ax. We kept within thought-speak range.

>Ax, do you see any of those Gleet Biofilter things?< Jake asked.

>No, Prince Jake.<

>Don't call me prince.<

>Yes, Prince Jake.Let's land on the roof and go in though the air vents.< I said.

>All right. Since it's an air vent and since the only bug morph Tobias has is a fly, we should all go fly.Well, are we just going to talk about it or are we going in. Let's do it.< Rachel said.

>Well, Rachel's ready to go.< Macro said. They demorphed and then remorphed to fly. Let's just say turning into a fly is gross but being a fly is cool. The only problem is the compound eyes making it hard to see. We flew down into the vents.

>We're in.< Jake said.

>Oh goody.< That was Marco of course.

Chapter 4

After a few twists and turns, we finally saw a light where there was an opening in the vent. We flew in and hung on the ceiling. We weren't sure if we should demorph or not.

>I'll demorph first.< Ax said. He slowly demorphed. Then I heard his voice again. >There's a human in here. He's asleep but I don't know when he'll wake up.<

>Morph to human, Ax. Tobias, you too. I think it's safe to demorph, as long as that guy doesn't wake up.< Jake said. We demorphed. When I had human eyes, I saw a man laying in the bed. He looked like he was in his late twenties. I decided to look around while the others figured out what to do. I looked under the bed and saw several blue notebooks. I also saw a picture of an older man. He looked about thirty and I realized that this had to be this man's brother. Suddenly, the man stirred and woke up.

"Who are you?" he asked.

Cassie decided to talk to him. She was better at that sort of thing then any of us. "My name's Cassie. This is Jake, Rachel, Marco, Ax, and Tobias."

"My name's Kyle. Are you other kids that were brought here?" He seemed like he was afriad of us.

"No. Why are you here?" Cassie asked.

"I was kidnapped from my apartment. I'm the bait that the Centre is using to catch my brother." Kyle said. I reached down and picked up the photo that I had seen earlier.

"Is this him?" I said and handed the picture to Kyle.

"Yes, I know that he's coming for me, but they'll kill me as soon as they have Jarod." Kyle said. I saw that he was on the verge of crying. To my surprise, it was Jake who spoke up next.

"Kyle, we'll get you and your brother back together. I promise you that. I lost my brother and I won't let anyone rip brothers apart, not while I live."

"Neither will I." I said.

"Me neither." Cassie said.

"I agree." Macro replied

"Same here." Rachel said.

"I too have lost a brother and I have to agree with Prince Jake." Ax said.

"Jake, do you think we can trust him with our secret?" Cassie whispered to Jake. "We can't get him out of here unless we do."

"Your right. We're just going to have to trust him." Jake said. "Kyle, do you promise not to tell anyone what we're about to tell you?"

"Yes." Kyle said.
"All right Ax, demorph." Jake said.

Ax slowly demorphed. I looked at Kyle to see his reaction. At first he was fine but then he completely lost it when Ax's tail and stalk eyes appeared. Kyle's eye's widened, his mouth dropped open and he just stared.

>Is he ok, Prince Jake? I'm afraid I scared him.< Ax said.

I demorphed. Once I was fully hawk, I fluttered over on the bed next to Kyle. >Kyle, are you ok?We call ourselves the Animorphs. We were given the power by an Andalite prince named Elfangor. He was Ax's brother. He gave us the power to change into any animal. We use this power to fight an alien race of paracites called the Yeerks. Ax is an Andalite.< I said.

"What are you?" Kyle asked me.

>I was trapped in my morph during a battle. Now I'm stuck in the body of a hawk but I can still morph.< I said. >Now we have to get out of here. Cassie, I hate to ask you but can you get rid of the guards? They're gone, but I had to rip one guys pants to get the key out of his pocket. He had on Bugs Bunny boxers.< she said laughing.

She demorphed and unlocked the door. Kyle was the first one out the door. One problem, we had no idea were to go.

"Kyle, do you know where we're going?" Jake asked.

"We're going to someplace safe. Sydney's office." Kyle said

We ran down the hall and into a room. There was a man sitting there that looked about fifty-five, maybe even older. He looked up and seemed surprised.

"Kyle, what are you doing here and who are these kids?" Sydney asked in surprise.

"I was kidnapped and brought here as bait to capture Jarod. These kids here rescued me. This is Jake, Rachel, Marco, Cassie, Ax, and Tobias." Kyle said and turned to leave when a man and a woman came in.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, then to Sydney she said, "We have a break in sercurity. We think Jarod has broken into the Centre but we don't know why. Broots says that there is also a wolf running around into the Centre. It bit Willie's butt and chased Sam all the way down to SL-12."

I laughed to myself. Cassie had chased the guards away. I looked at her and saw her smile.

Kyle whispered to Jake and then turned to leave. Then the woman pulled out a gun and aimed it at Kyle. "You're not going anywhere, Kyle."

"Miss Parker!" Sydney shouted. I saw Rachel duck behind Jake, Cassie, and Marco. The next thing I saw was a wolf fly out from behind Jake, right towards Miss Parker.

>Kyle, get out of here! Jake stay with him. Cassie and Tobias, find Jarod. Ax and Marco, morph to wolf and follow me.< Rachel ordered. No one even hesitated.

I ran out the door with Cassie right behind me. We turned three corners before we met up with Jake and Kyle. Together we ran down two more halls and were a hundred feet from the exit when two sweepers showed up, blocking the exit.

"Kyle's coming with us." one of them said and reached out to grab him. Cassie and I had the same idea. We both stepped in front of Kyle so the sweeper couldn't get him. "Fine, I'll take you instead." He grabbed Cassie by her arm and started to drag her.

"Cassie!" I cried and ran to get her. The second sweeper grabbed me.

"Cassie! Tobias!" Jake cried and started to run towards us but Kyle held him back.

"Jake! Jake!" Cassie cried.

Chapter 5

They dragged us down the hall and into a small room. They threw us roughly in and locked the door.

"Who are you?" We turned around to find a man sitting on a bed. He looked familair, then I recalled the picture in Kyle's room.

"Jarod?" I asked.

"How do you know my name?" Jarod asked.

"We found your picture when we rescued your brother."

"Is he okay?" Jarod asked

"Kyle's safe. By the way my name's Tobias and this is Cassie." I said.

We heard noises outside the door. I dragged Cassie under the bed and we listened. A young man with a glove over one hand came into the room.

"Well, who have we here? If it isn't Jarod the pretender. The genius who can be anyone he wants to be." A voice said mockingly.

"If you think you can get away with this..." Jarod started to say. I was afriad for Jarod. This man didn't looked like someone to mess with. The man just smiled at Jarod and it wasn't a nice smile.

"I already have gotten away with it. I have your brother and you. Now I will be in charge of the Centre. Still, I wish I could have seen your face when you saw that your brother was gone." the man said.

"Lyle, your plan has only one flaw." Jarod said, smiling.

"What's that?" Lyle said, no longer smiling.

"You don't have my brother. He escaped from his cell and is somewhere in the Centre." Jarod said, smirking.

Lyle grabbed Jarod and threw him to the floor. I was going to crawl out from under the bed to help Jarod but just then something happened.

BANG! Suddenly, there was no door but Rachel. Not the Rachel with blond hair and blue eyes, but the Rachel with brown fur and sharp claws. Rachel was in grizzly bear morph and she knocked down the door.

'Way to be subtle, Rachel.' I thought as I ran for the door. Jarod was the first one out the door. He made it two steps before the two sweepers recovered and grabbed him. One of them grabbed his gun and put it to Jarod's head.

"Don't move or I swear I'll kill you." Willie said. Jarod stood very still.

>Tobias, demorph. We need firepower.< Rachel said.

I demorphed. Once I was fully hawk, I took to the air. It was hard with the ceiling over my head but I tried anyway. I quickly found the others. Jake was in tiger morph. Ax and Cassie were in wolf morph. Marco was a gorilla but he was holding a gun. Everyone was staying back, away from Marco. They grouped together with Macro out front, Ax and Cassie were behind him, and Jake and Rachel took up the rear. I landed on Marco's shoulder as he talked to the sweepers.

>Now, we came to get Jarod and we're not leaving until we get him.< Marco said.

"Your not going to get him." Willie said.

>All right, I've had enough. Tobias, can you please get rid of the guy with the gun?< Marco asked.

>No problem.< I said.

"Tseeeeer!" I screamed as I attacked. Willie screamed as my talons raked across his face.

>Jarod, follow me!< Cassie cried.

"Cassie?" Jarod asked.

>Yes, I'll explain later. Let's go!< Cassie said. Jarod ran after Cassie and I flew overhead. The others took off in different directions. We forgot one thing. We forgot that the other sweeper also had a gun. Sam raised his gun, aimed it at Jarod, and pulled the trigger.

"Ahhhhhhhh!" Jarod screamed as the bullet entered his shoulder.

>Jarod!< I screamed.

"I'm okay, just go." he cried. The two of us ran. Cassie had gotten ahead of of us and had morphed to horse. I told Jarod to get on the horse as we found our way out of the Centre.

We traveled a couple of miles before we reached an abandoned apartment building. Jarod was still riding Cassie, clutching his injured shoulder. I flew inside to see Jake, Rachel, and Marco sitting at a very old kitchen table. Ax was standing near the door as the three of us walked in. I demorphed when I got inside.

"Tobias, what happened?" Jake said.

>One of the sweepers shot him as we were escaping. We need to get him to a hospital.< I said.

"I'll be fine." Jarod said. The door opened behind us.

"Jarod?" a voice said.

"Kyle?" Jarod asked. Kyle ran to Jarod and we all watched as they embraced each other. Suddenly, Jarod collapsed. A second before he would have hit the floor, Marco and Kyle caught him.

"What's happening to him?" Rachel asked.

"He's passed out from the loss of blood. He'll be fine if I can stop the bleeding. Marco, hand me that towel." Kyle said.

Jarod was unconscious for about an hour before he woke up. He sat up and looked around.

"Kyle. He's awake." Jake said.

"Where am I and who are you?" Jarod asked.

"My name is Jake. This is Rachel, Ax, and Marco. I believe you already met Cassie and Tobias. We rescued you and Kyle from the Centre and your safe, for now."

"We have to get out of here." Jarod said. He started to stand up but the pain of his wound made him fall back on the couch.

"Not until your shoulder's better." I said.

"Tobias, I understand that your just trying to help. I thank you all for what you did for me and Kyle but you don't know what your getting into. They will kill you if they learn who you are."

"Well, that sounds familair." Rachel said.

"Jarod, your not the only ones that feel that way." Cassie said. I knew what she was going to do. No one stopped her as she told the secret that we had guarded for almost a year. We all listened as she told of the Andalite named Elfangor who gave us the power to morph into animals. Then she told the two brothers about why we were given this power.

"They are called the Yeerks. They are parasites that crawl into your ear and control your mind. We fight them to protect the planet from Yeerk control. The Yeerks think we are a bunch of Andalites. If they found out we were human kids, they would kill us." Cassie said.

"But your just kids. I thought I had it rough, running from the Centre all the time." Jarod said.

We let Jarod sleep a while. We talked with Kyle and decided where they should go. After Jarod woke up we said good-bye and as the two brothers turned to leave.

"Good-bye guys and thanks again from everything you've done for us." Jarod said. They started to leave but then Kyle turned around.

"Tobias, here's my number. If you guys need anything, call us."

"Here's my number if you need us." I said as I handed him a card. I added as a joke"if you can't get that number, just dial 1-800-Animorph."

Kyle laughed as their car pulled away. We, the Animorphs, morphed and headed home.

I got a call from Jake the next day. He said that he overheard his brother saying that the plan at the Centre was blown. Since Jarod escaped, they couldn't do what they were planning on doing. I decided that there was no way that Visser Three would give up, so I had made sure that Jarod and Kyle were never captured.

On A Day Like Today
By A.H. Crocker

Streets of
Dover, Delaware

Robert and Brian Readon were on their way to the airport. The two brother were on their way to the Amazon Rainforest to research a potential cure for cancer. Both of them were just out of college and on their first excursion. They just needed to cash Brian's check at the local bank. Dover Town Bank to be exact.

****

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

"Miss Parker"

Broots stumbled into her office, holding a folder. She looked up to see not just Broots but her brother. 'What the hell does he want?' she wondered.

"What Broots?" Miss Parker said, ignoring her brother.

"Well......"

"Mr. Broots has a lead on Jarod. He's at the Dover Town Bank." Lyle said, cutting him off.

"Was I asking you?" Miss Parker said angerly

FLASH

Patience has never been one of your virtues, has it Miss Parker?

You've got quite a set showing up here.

Well even you wouldn't pull a gun in a bank.

Where did you find that letter?

In the last place you'd expect. Would you care to read more.

You son of a bitch.

FLASH

"Miss Parker?"

"Hey sis, you okay."

She looked to find both Lyle and Broots staring at her. She shook her head a couple of times and they were still staring.

"Lyle, get the jet ready." she said, trying to shake the vision out of her head.

"The jet? Parker, the bank is just a half hour away." Lyle said.

"Fine! Just park the car out front and wait for me there." Lyle left, leaving Miss Parker alone with Broots.

"Are you sure your okay, Parker?" Broots asked.

"I'm fine." then under her breath she said, "I just have a bad feeling about this."

****

Dover Town Bank
Dover, Delaware

Jarod and Kyle were already at the bank. Jarod had told Kyle about the time he and Miss Parker were trapped during a robbery. This pretend was Kyle's idea. Jarod didn't want to be a bank teller. It was one of the most dangerous professions there was but Kyle insisted that it was only to help Jarod get over his fear of being in another bank robbery. Still, Jarod had been complaining all day.

"Jarod, it's almost time to close anyway. What can possibly happen in a half hour?" Kyle said. As soon as he said it he regretted it, because both of them saw the danger at the door. Jarod sent Kyle out the back door so he could get the car ready.

Lyle and Miss Parker had stepped into the building. Jarod looked around. There were no sweepers or anything. It almost made Jarod laugh. They were here to get some money.

Behind Lyle and Parker, Rob and Brian waited patiently, but behind them were three more men. One was locking the doors from the inside. He turned around and fired his gun in the air.

"Everybody get down and don't move!" the man shouted. Everyone dropped to the floor, including Miss Parker, Lyle, Rob, Brian, and Jarod.

Jarod was panicked. 'Oh no, it's happening again.' he thought as the men moved them behind his desk. Before he ducked down behind the desk Jarod caught a glimpse of Kyle. He was locked out but he understood what was going on. He pointed to the skylight window and Jarod nodded. As Jarod ducked down further behind the desk, he saw Lyle reach for his gun. Jarod had to stop him.

"Your two are so much alike."Jarod said.

Lyle's head whipped around to stare fiercely at Jarod.

"What the hell are you doing here, Jarod?" Lyle said.

"I was working until I was so rudely interupted." Jarod said, glaring at the man's accomplice. "I told Kyle I didn't want to do this but he insisted."

"Where is he, anyway?" Miss Parker asked.

"Up there." Jarod said pointing to the ceiling. At the sunroof window stood Kyle. He was on the phone, with the police. Obviously, he was informing them of the situation below.

"I never thought I would be stuck in another bank robbery with you, Jarod." Miss Parker said.

"Well, I'm not exactly thrilled about it myself." Jarod replied.

Brian and Rob were sitting behind Lyle and Jarod while this was going. Brian was on the verge of crying.

"What do you think will happen to us, Rob?" Brian asked his older brother.

"I'm not sure. But trust me on this. I'm not going to let anything happen to you." Rob said. Jarod, overhearing the conversation, moved so he was sitting next to Rob and Brian.

"Are you okay?" Jarod asked.

"I'm just scared." Brian said.

"Don't worry, my brother's working on the situation as we speak." Jarod said to the young man.

"Where is he?" Brian asked shyly, not knowing why this guy cared about him and his brother.

"He's on the roof, on the phone. In fact he's right there." Jarod said as he once again pointed to the skylight.

"I hope he hurries it along. I got places to be and no doubt the others are looking for us." Lyle interupted.

"Where is Lyle?"

"Like I would know, All I know is that he and Miss Parker left the Centre an hour ago and they're still not back." Broots said.

Broots and Sydney had been sitting in Broots's office, waiting for Lyle and Miss Parker. Broots had gotten a solid lead on Jarod and Lyle seemed excited about it.

"What do you think, Syd?" Broots asked.

"You said he left an hour ago. Maybe he has a different lead on Jarod or Kyle that we don't know about." Sydney said.

"What if Lyle's planning on hurting them?" Broots asked. He recalled a time Lyle said it was time to end this pursuit of Jarod. Lyle also said that he'd do what ever it takes to end it. Of course Broots didn't mention this to Sydney. Sydney would panic. He knew that Sydney would do whatever it takes to save Jarod.

The robbers were having a problem. They were finished at the bank but they neede a way to get by the cops. When Nick saw the young man sitting in the corner, he got his idea. He walked up behind Brian and grabbed him. Brian struggled, kicked. and screamed.

"No! Let me go! No!" Brian cried.

Rob and Jarod were on their feet before the Nick could stop them. They didn't get two steps before the gunman pulled out his gun. With his gun at Brian's throat, Nick walked towards the door, knowing that Jarod and Rob wouldn't follow. But someone else decided to do something.

"Rob, help! Help!" Brian cried.

"Stop!" someone shouted. It was Lyle. He was standing up and had his gun pointed at the gunman. Then the accomplices barged into the room.

"Nick, what are you doing?"

Startled, both Lyle and Nick looked at the men that just walked in. Nick recovered sooner and suddenly, shot Lyle. He fell to the floor as the men ran outside, dragging Brian with them. The other two men grabbed Miss Parker and Jarod. They got into a car and drove off.

"Lyle!" Rob shouted as he fell to the floor beside him.

"It's okay, Lyle. It's okay." Rob said softly. Suddenly Kyle came rushing to Rob's side.

"How'd this happen? I only left the window for a second and I come back to
find all hell breaking loose." Kyle said. "I'm going to call Sydney and tell
him what happened here."

"Broots, I have a feeling that Jarod has something to do with Lyle's disappearance. Miss Parker too.

Sydney was a wreck. He hadn't slept in the past two days. The phone rang and he leaped twenty feet in the air before Broots answered it.

"Hello."

"Broots, put Sydney on. Now!"

"Yes, but who is this?" Broots had barely heard Kyle's voice let alone reconise it.

"It's Kyle. Look, will you just put him on?"

"What's wrong. Is there something wrong with Jarod?" Broots asked.

"BROOTS!"

"Ok. Ok, here he is." Kyle heard a shuffle as Broots handed the phone to Sydney.

"This is Sydney."

"Missing somebody?" Kyle asked.

" Kyle? What did you two do with Lyle and Parker?" Sydney asked.

"Look, I don't have time to explain so listen to me. Lyle was hurt when the bank we were in was robbed. He's fine. But..." Kyle said.

"Kyle..." he started to say.

"Jarod, Miss Parker, and a man named Brian are still hostages. Now I have to go. The situation is desperate." he said as he hung up the phone.

"Kyle, are you still there?" The only return was that of a dial tone. "Your just like your brother, Kyle." he sighed and went to his own office.

A warehouse
Dayton, Maine

"Let us go! We got you out of the state! Hell, we got you all the way to Maine! Now let us go!" Brian was screaming his lungs out as he begged to be let go. He was tied to a chair and had been screaming for the past hour. The others were in similiar situations. Nick wasn't sure what he wanted to do with them.

"What are we going to do with them, Nick? We can't leave him here to scream like this." Mike said, pointing at Brian. "There are always game wardens in these woods. They would find them and then come after us." Mike was one of Nick's partners.

"I'll shut him up." Nick said. He grabbed a lead pipe that was hanging around and struck Brian in the back of the head. Brian was immediately unconscious.

"Brian!" Jarod shouted. He and Miss Parker were tied up on the other side of the building. "What do you want from us?"

"I want you to shut up before you end up like him." Nick said, pointing to Brian. " Let's go, Mike. You too, Jeff." The three of them left the warehouse and Miss Parker and Jarod alone.

Once he was sure the men were gone, Jarod spoke to Miss Parker.

"Parker, can you reach that knife on the table over there?" Jarod asked.

"I might be able to." Miss Parker said. She reached and grabbed the knife. She cut her ropes and ran to Brian's side.

"Hey! What about me?" Jarod asked.

Miss Parker tossed the knife on Jarod's lap."Here. Cut yourself loose." She check Brian's pulse while Jarod was getting himself untied. She began to panic suddenly. " Jarod!" Miss Parker called.

"What is it, Parker?" Jarod asked.

"He doesn't have a pulse and he's not breathing."

"No." Jarod ran from his chair to Brian's side. He started CPR right away. He didn't see any sign that his efforts were working. He started crying and pleading with an unconsious Brian. "No. Come on , man. You can't die here." Just as Jarod was about to give up, Brian coughed.

"Are you okay?" Jarod asked.

"Oh. Oh man. I was so close to being dead." Brian was freaking out. "Where is that guy? I'll show him!"

"Calm down, Brian. We have to get out of here?" Jarod asked.

"How?"

"Yeah, how is Wonder Boy going to get us out?" Miss Parker, of course.

"Okay. I'll get us out of here. One thing, Miss Parker?"

"Yes."

"Would you quit calling me Wonder Boy."

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

Broots was in a state of true panic. He and Sydney hade been working all day and night to try and find Miss Parker and Jarod. Lyle had come back to the Centre. Broots had no idea how he got there, but he wasn't going to question him now. Lyle was still in pain from his wound and he was now fast asleep in his office. Sydney was sleeping at the desk when the phone rang. Sydney jerked awake and grabbed the phone.

"This is Sydney."

"Sydney, it's Kyle."

"Did you find them yet?" Sydney asked.

"No,we haven't." Kyle said.

"Damn it. Kyle we're running out of time." Sydney said.

"Do you think I don't know that?" Kyle said, starting to get angry " Look, it's not just Miss Parker out there. My brother's there too!"

Lyle was sick of just sitting there listening to the two men arguing. He got up slowly and grabbed the phone away from Sydney.

"Kyle, I know where they are." he said.

"What are you talking about, Lyle?"

"Remember when I captured you and Jarod? Didn't I hold you guys in a warehouse in a small town?"

"What are you trying to say, Lyle?" Kyle asked.

"I know that they're in southern Maine because they can't cross the border and they don't want to be seen close to it. I've crossed out most of the big cities and towns. These are the remaining towns, Lyman, Hollis, Saco, Arundel, Old Orchard, Limington, and Dayton."

"We don't have time to check them all." Kyle said.

"We don't have any other choice. Just search as many as you can."

"All right. I'll try." Kyle said as he hung up.

Back at the Warehouse
Dayton, Maine

Brian, Jarod, and Miss Parker were still in the warehouse. Jarod was trying to work the lock of a window. Brian and Miss Parker were just hanging around watching him. Jarod banged on the window in fustration.

"Jarod, give it a rest already." Brian said.

"Why don't you just break the window?" Miss Parker said annoyed.

"Do you want to do this? If I could break the window, I'd break it. I'm trying everything I can right now." Jarod said angrily. Miss Parker was about to come back with a snppy remark when Brian shut her up.

"Shh! Jarod, look." Brian said, pointing at the lock door. Miss Parker and Brian froze in terror while Jarod grabbed a vase that was laying on the floor. As the door opened, Jarod threw the vase at the figure in the dark doorway.

"Hey, watch it!" the man shouted.

"Kyle?" Jarod asked.

"Oh my God, Jarod is that you?" Kyle asked then to the people behind him he yelled,"Guys, they're in here!

"All right, can we just get out of here?" Miss Parker asked. As Kyle led the way through the dark to where he park the car, Brian began to wonder.

"Kyle, where is my brother?"

"I'm right here." Rob said.

"Rob!" Brian cried.

"I thought I'd never see you again." Rob said crying.

"Let's go you two." Jarod said.

Kyle was walking but was struck down by a branch. Jeff held Rob at gunpoint and Mike grabbed Kyle. Miss Parker and Brian looked on in shock as a new gunmen came at them with his gun drawn. Jarod stepped in front of them to protect them with his own body.

"Jarod, who is that guy?" Miss Parker asked.

"What you don't reconise me?" the man said.

"Jude!" Jarod said in unfriendly reconision.

"Very good, at least you remember." Jude said laughing.

" I see that yor following in your brother's footsteps." Jarod said.

"My brother's dead. He went too far in the crime business." Jude said.

" Look, let them all go. Just take me." Jarod said. Nick whispered to Jeff and Mike and the two released their hostages. To the others he said,"Go. I'll be all right."

"Jarod, I'm not leaving you here." Kyle said and ran to Jarod's side. Jude, Jeff, and Mike all had their guns pointed at the brothers.

"Just go. I don't want you getting killed for me. I can handle this and I need you to protect Brian and the others." Jarod said.

"But Jarod.."

"I said GO!" Jarod yelled.

Kyle turned to leave. He motioned for Brian, Miss Parker, and Rob to go in front of him. Kyle turned back to face his brother. Jarod mouthed the word 'Go!' Kyle nodded sadly and turned to follow the others.

Nick whispered to Jeff and then Jeff raised his gun and shot Kyle in the back. Kyle fell forward to the ground. Jarod shook free of his captors and ran to his brother. The gunmen ran away into the woods. Miss Parker and Brian were already by Kyle. Brian had taken off his shirt and placed it under Kyle's head. Brian and Miss Parker shook their heads sadly as they saw Jarod approach.

"No." Jarod said softly.

"Jarod, I'm...." Brian started.

"Leave me alone." Jarod said and ran into the woods.

"Jarod! Jarod!" Miss Parker yelled out to him. He didn't reply.

"Come on. Let's go." Rob said softly as he turned and headed for the car.

Miss Parker entered Sydney's office at about 9:00pm. She collapsed in the chair in front of the desk. Sydney just stared at her until Broots and Lyle walked in.

"Miss Parker, I'm so glad your all right." Broots said, showing signs of relief.

"Hey sis, are you all right?" Lyle said, seeing the sadden look on her face.

"Yes. I need to call Thomas, to let him know I'm all right." she said and left the office.

Jarod sat in his new apartment, staring blindly out the window. The phone suddenly rang and Jarod ran to answer it.

"Hello."

"Jarod, it's me." the voice said.

"Brian? How did you get my number?" Jarod asked.

"That doesn't matter. I want you to meet me at the store on the corner. I have something for you."

Later that day, Jarod met Brian at the store. They all walked in silence until they reached a nearby park. Jarod watched some kids playing on the swings, then he shook head and turned to face Brian.

"Why did you call me here, Brian?" Jarod asked.

"Look, I was there when Kyle died. He told Miss Parker to go and he gave me this." Brian handed Jarod, Kyle's Flying Cross medal and a blue notebook. Jarod started to cry as he accepted the items.

"He told me to give you these. I didn't know what they were but he told me that you would." Brian then turned to leave but Jarod called out to him.

"Brian!"

"Yeah!" he replied.

"Thanks." Jarod turned and walked away.

Free is all you gotta be
Dream dreams no one else can see
Sometimes you wanna run away
but ya never know what might be comin' around your way

The whole world could change
The sun's gonna shine
Shine through the rain
On a day like today
You never wanna see the sun go down
You never wanna see the sun go down

Somewhere there's a place for you
I know that you believe it too
Sometimes you wanna get away
All ya gotta know it that what we got is here to stay

"Musical" Series
Part 8
Crash & Buern
By A.H. Crocker

DAY 1

Pacific Jetport
Santa Monica, California

Jarod prepares a small Cenca jet for takeoff. It was a clear day and according to Jarod's radio, it was going to stay that way. He was on his way to Alaska. Once he was in the air, he saw his mistake. The weather report was wrong. The storm had changed course and he was caught in the middle of it. Jarod tried to maintain altitude as he fought the turbulance.

"Come on. Come on." Jarod pleade with the dying machine. He soon lost all control of the plane. The plane spun a few times and plunged into the ocean.

Undisclosed Location

Jarod woke up to find himself floating in the water. He was lucky to have survived the crash.

"Great. I survive a plane crash just to die in the middle of the ocean." Jarod muttered to himself. He sighed as he floated on the waves.

"Ow!" he said, suddenly hitting his head. He turned to see that he had hit his head on a rock. Jarod had been washed up on an island. As he dragged himself out of the water he realized his right leg and wrist were broken. He also dislocated his left shoulder. Along with that, he was losing blood from many cuts on his body. As he laid on the shore his thoughts drifted to all the problems he had in the past few months. The time he was shot, getting trampled by horses, the attack from Lyle, when he was arrested, when Kyle was kidnapped, the hostage situation with Miss Parker, and then losing his brother again. Once again, Jarod thought the whole thing was his fault. In his grief, he fell asleep on the shore.

DAY 2

Alaskan S&R
Jueneu, Alaska

"What do you mean he never showed up?"

"That's the truth, Sir. Records show he got into his plane in Santa Monica. After that there's nothing." Patrick told the frantic man. Patrick Gates was a search and rescue offical of the Pacific area. He was supose to have an offical from California come to help him out but he never showed. It wasn't like Jarod not to show up or at least call. That worried Pat because Jarod saved his life once and now he was in trouble.

"Once I get more information I'll call you." Pat told the man. Patrick watched as the man stormed out of the office.

Undisclosed Location

Jarod awoke with rain splashing his face. He dragged himself higher up the shore and tried to stand. After a few failed attempts, he got himself up against a tree. He knew he had to get help but he didn't know how. Jarod felt around for his cellphone and found it in the grass by his feet. Jarod turned it on, surprised that it even worked. He was going to call Sydney but he wouldn't be able to get there in time. So he decided to call someone else instead.

A Cabin
Vancouver, Canada

Nicholas just walked into the cabin when he heard the phone ring. He figured it was his girlfriend, checking to see if he made it there all right. He raced to grab the phone.

"Hello."

"Nick?"

Nicholas's eyes widened in recognition. "Jarod? Is that you?"

"Yes." Jarod said softly.

"Jarod?" A look of concern flashed across his face. A knock came on his door and a young man entered. "What's wrong? You sound hurt?"

"Yeah, I decided to see if a plane could land in the ocean and become a boat. Let's just say it didn't work out too well." Jarod laughed weakly.

"Look, I don't have time for your sarcasm. Where are you?" Nicholas asked,
worry filling his voice.

"Nick, what's wrong?" the man asked.

"Scott, just give me a minute and I'll tell you." Nicholas said and to Jarod he said, " Hang on, Jarod. We'll find you, trust me."

"Before you go..."

"Yeah Jarod."

"Call your fa...er.''

"What? Jarod, I'm losing your signal. Jarod! Jarod!" Nicholas sighed, the only sound that returned was the hiss of Jarod's cellphone. "Damn!" Nicholas yelled as he slammed his phone down.

"Nick! Will you tell me what the hell is going on here?" Scott asked. He was scared by the look on his best friend's face.

"I'll tell you on the way to the Alaskan Search and Rescue." Nicholas said
and then went to his car.

"What? Nick! Nick! Wait for me!" Scott yelled and ran after Nicholas.

Alaskan Search&Rescue Base
Juneau, Alaska

Pat was even more worried. It had been a day since Jarod's plane disappeared. The search team was giving up hope of finding him alive. He was about to give up himself when someone knocked on his door.

"Sir, there's someone here to see you."

"Thanks Nate, send him in." Nate was one of Pat's team members. He was one of the people who wanted to give up and send only the minimum number of agents out. Pat wouldn't allow it because those agents would only be out there to find Jarod's body. He wasn't about to give upon Jarod because he knew that Jarod would never give up on him, if it were him out there. Nicholas walked in, disrupting Pat's thoughts and worries.

"Hi, My name's Nicholas and this is my best friend Scott. I have some information for you."

"Is it about Jarod?"

"Yes, I'm one of his friends. He called me at my cabin and I recorded some of the call." Nick said, holding up a tape.

"Can I see the tape." Pat asked.

"Sure. Can you excuse me? I need to make a phone call."

DAY 3
The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

Miss Parker and Broots were walking down to SL-16 to meet Sydney in Broots office.

"Jarod has never been this late." Miss Parker said.

"What do you mean, Miss Parker?" Broots asked.

"Usually Jarod calls me to laugh at my failed attempt to catch him. He hasn't called me for a few days now." Miss Parker explained.

"Do you think something happened to him?" Broots asked.

"After these past few weeks..." she sighed sadly. "Nevermind. Where was Jarod's last lair?"

"Santa Monica, California." Broots said.

"What are you thinking Parker?" Sydney asked.

"I think he's either in trouble, hurt, or he's dead." Miss Parker answered.

"I really hope it's not any of those choices." Broots said. The phone started ringing as they entered Broots' office. Broots walked to his desk to answer it. "Hello."

"Broots, put my dad on the phone. NOW!"

"Nicholas?" Broots asked, but on hearing his son's name, Sydney grabbed the phone.

"Nicholas."

"Dad, there's something I need to tell you." Nicholas said. Sydney heard the tension in his son's voice and feared the worse.

"What is it Nick?"

"It's about Jarod."

"What happened?"

"Jarod was flying a small jet and he crashed into the ocean."

"Don't tell me that he's dead."

"No. He's alive but he's hurt very badly. He called me yesterday. He might not make it another day."

"I'm on the first plane to Alaska." Sydney said.

"Dad, bring Miss Parker too. We might need her help." Nicholas said and hung up.

"What's up, Syd?" Miss Parker asked.

"We're going to Alaska." Sydney told her.

"I'll stay here and try to get some information on the plane Jarod was flying and where it went down." Broots said.

"No Broots. Your coming with us. We may need your help." Miss Parker said.

"Sure. Just let me grab my computer and we'll leave." Broots said.

Undisclosed Location

Jarod was getting worse. There was a storm pounding rain on top of him,
soaking his body. He was weak and vulnerable to the elements of the
environment. He knew that someone was coming for him but he didn't know how
much longer he could hold out.

Alaskan Search & Rescue
Juneau, Alaska

Miss Parker, Broots, and Sydney walked into the S&R office. Inside, Pat and Nicholas were sitting at the table, looking at maps of the islands. Miss Parker just stared at Pat. She walked to a nearby chair and collapsed into it.

"Parker!" Sydney cried.

"Miss Parker, are you all right?" Broots asked.

"Yes." then to Pat she said, "Patrick?"

Patrick nodded his head. "I'm so sorry, Parker. I didn't know you would react this way at seeing me again."

"What do you mean by that?" Sydney asked.

"My name is Patrick. My last name is Gates." Pat explained then turned his attention back to Miss Parker.

"Your Thomas' brother?" Broots asked.

Pat nodded again. "I just got word of my brother's death last week. I still can't believe he's dead. Then I hear that Jarod's plane crashed and I had to act. He saved my life about five months ago. I can't lose him. I've lost too many people in my life already. My parents, my best friend, and now my brother. I'm not going to lose Jarod too."

"Miss Parker, you'd better see this." Broots called from across the room. He was at his computer, along with Nicholas. They were both staring at the screen.

"What is it Broots?"
"I just brought up the recorcds of the search team that is working on Jarod's case and I found this." He called up the file and the profiles of the team came on the screen.

"I know him. He was he a few days ago demanding where Jarod was but I never knew who he was." Pat said.

"It says here that his name is Kyle Taner. It also says that he is ex-FBI and joined the Alsakan S&R last week. I'm downloading the team pictures now." Broots reported and sat back in shock as the picture came on the screen.

"Broots, you look like you've just seen a ghost." Sydney said.

"I have. Take a look at this." The picture was of Jarod's younger brother.

"But he's dead. He was killed in a hostage situation a few weeks ago. Who else is on that team?" Miss Parker asked Pat.

"Well, the actual team is split into two groups of three. There's Chris Moran, Erik Hutchinson, and of course Kyle. The other team includes a man named Nate Keating, a young intern named Ryan Cote, and me." Pat told her.

"We have to do something." Sydney said.

"We're doing all we can." Pat told him.

"Well somebody better start doing something or I'll go out and find him myself." Patrick stared at her shoes and started laughing. "What?" Miss Parker asked.

"Not in those heels you aren't." he said.

"Just watch me."

Undiclosed Location

Jarod was getting scared. It was the evening of his third day on the island. It was dark, cold, and raining. He'd lost a lot of his strength and was giving up hope of being rescued. He could hardly move and had lost a lot of blood from the many wounds on his body. He was so disoriented that he thought that he heard someone calling his name, so he cried out as loud as he could.

"I'm here! Help! I'm here!" then softer "I'm here." He then lost consciousness.

A man was walking through the woods. He stopped when he heard the shouts. He began to run towards the source of the noise. There in the grass, he found Jarod. He bent down to check his injuries.

"Hang on, brother." then into his radio he called,"This is Taner. I found him."

Alaskan Search & Rescue
Juneau, Alaska

Good work, Taner. What's his condition?" Pat was relieved that Kyle had found Jarod. He called to the others who were in the other room. They came in as Kyle was annoucing Jarod's condition.

"He's alive but he's hurt very badly. I don't know how long he's going to last. He wouldn't have made it another day. You guys need to get here fast." Kyle reported.

"We're on our way." Pat said. He called Nate and Ryan. Then they all left in a helicopter, heading towards Jarod.

Undisclosed Location

Kyle had covered Jarod with a blanket to keep him warm and to keep the rain from soaking him even more. He couldn't start a fire in the rain so the blankets were all he had until the rest of the tam arrived. Erik and Chris had gone to try and find some shelter. Jarod woke up and spotted Kyle but he wasn't sure if it was him.

"Kyle?"

"Yes, it's me." Kyle responded and turned around. Jarod, seeing his brother's face, nearly passed out.

"But...but, your dead?" Jarod said weakly.

"The Golden Globe award goes to Kyle for the besr faked death in real life." he laughed. Then he got a real serious look on his face as he saw the other injuries that he hadn't seen before. "Chris!" he shouted.

"Yeah."

"Can you get me my bag?"

"Sure." Chris came over to Kyle and handed him his bag. Erik came over to help them. Erik got really worried about Jarod.

"Taner, is he going to be all right? He doesn't look very good. Here give him another blanket." Erik said.

"Thank you, Erik." Kyle said.

"He reconised you. How come?" Erik asked.

"He's my brother." Kyle said sadly.

"Really? You know, I lost my brother and sister when I was sixteen. We were out at a party and I left early. One of the guys there drove them home. It was the next day that I heard of the accident."

"I'm sorry." Kyle said, putting a comforting hand on Erik shoulder.

"Hey, do you hear that?"

"Hear what?"

"That!" What Erik heard and saw was a helicopter. The other team had arrived. Pat came and got Jarod into the helicopter. Another helicopter came and took Chris, Nate, and Ryan. The other one had Jarod, Kyle, Pat, and Erik. Erik watched as Pat worked on Jarod and Kyle went to the other end of the chopper. Pat then walked over to Kyle and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Will my brother survive?" Kyle asked.

"I'm not sure Kyle. I don't know if he'll pull through this." Pat said.

"Damn it, Pat. I can't lose him! He's the only family I have left. I haven't found my family and I might not without him." Kyle collapsed in his seat and cried.

"I understand what your going through, Kyle." Pat said.

"How can you possibly understand?" Kyle asked through tears. Erik came closer to listen and to also comfort Kyle.

"Jarod didn't tell you?" Pat was a little shock.

"No. What happened?"

"My older brother Thomas was murdered last week. He meant so much to me. Thomas took care of me when our parents died, he comforted me when my best friend died of cancer, and he saved my life with the help of Jarod." Pat looked like he was having a hard time breathing.

"Pat, why didn't you tell me?" Erik asked. Erik had been Pat's friend for about six years and he had never mentioned it to him.

"I didn't want to accept it. When I saw Miss Parker's sad expression when she saw me, I knew it was true." Pat said in tears. Erik had been listening to the sad story when he heard a cough from Jarod.

"Pat!" Erik called. Pat ran to Jarod's side and saw tears in his eyes. He was shaking with the cold of hypothermia setting in. Jarod's breathing became short and rapid as he cried.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Jarod cried.

"Why are you sorry, Jarod?" Pat asked

"I had Miss Parker and Thomas meet each other. The Centre had him killed because Miss Parker was losing her focus. It was my fault. I should have known what the Centre would do." Jarod told him.

"It wasn't your fault. Try to slow down your breathing or you'll kill yourself before you get to the hospital." Pat joked sadly. No more was said until they reached the hospital.

DAY 4

Evergreen Day Hospital
Juneau, Alaska

Jarod was rushed into the emergency room. Kyle, Sydney, Miss Parker, Nicholas, Patrick, and Erik were left to wait in the nearby waiting room. Pat and Erik were shaking with worry. Miss Parker and Nicholas kept to themselves. Sydney was trying to comfort Kyle as they prepared for the worst.

The doctor came in and said that one of them could go to see him. Everyone agreed that it should be Kyle. He followed the doctor into Jarod's room. The doctor checked the monitors and left the two alone. As soon as the doctor left, Jarod jumped out of bed like a child on Christmas morning.

"How are we going to get out of here?" Kyle asked.

"The way a pretender does." Jarod said, pointing to the two doctors suits hanging in the closet.

Jarod and Kyle quickly left the hospital but not before checking on their friends in the waiting room.

"Hello My name is Dr. Pepper and this is Dr. Coke." Jarod said.

"Nice names. Where's Dr. Pepsi?" Miss Parker commented.

Eveybody went into Jarod's room. They found the room empty except for a piece of paper on Jarod's bed.

"It's a note from Jarod." Erik said and Sydney grabbed to note to read it.

Dear Sydney, Miss Parker, Nicholas, Erik, and Patrick,

I'm fine. I'm not dead and I'm on the search for my parents. Kyle's here too. So until we meet again, catch me if you can.
-Jarod

The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware

Sydney was sitting at his desk when the phone rang. It was Jarod.

"Jarod?" Sydney asked

"Yes, it's me. I'm here and alive." Jarod said laughing.

"I was worried about you. Did you have your whole escape planned out?" Sydney asked.

"Yeah. Kyle actually came up with the idea on the helicopter." Jarod said and hung up.

"Jarod? Jarod?" Sydney sighed because he knew who Jarod would call next. Miss Parker.

Miss Parker's home
Blue Cove, Delaware

Miss Parker answered the ringing phone in her usual style.

"What?"

"Did you think I could die that easily?" Jarod asked.

"No, but I had my doubts." Miss Parker replied.

"Well, I'm fine and I'll still drive you crazy. Check in the kitchen." Jarod said and hung up.

Miss Parker sighed and walked to her kitchen. She saw a card on the counter. She opened the card and a picture fell out. The card said CATCH US IF YOU CAN! The picture was of Jarod and Kyle at Sea World.

"I will catch you, Jarod...Someday!"

Crash & Burn

When you feel all alone
and the world has turned it's back on you
Give me a moment please to tame your wild wild heart
I know you feel like the walls are closing in on you
It's hard to find relief and peopple can be so cold
When darkness is upon your door and you feel like you can't take anymore

Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
Your not alone

When you feel all alone
And a loyal friend is hard to find
You're caught in a one way street
With the monsters in your head
When hopes and dreams are far away and
You feel like you can't face the day

Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
Your not alone

Because there has always been heartache and pain
and when it's over you'll breathe again
You'll breath again

When you feel all alone
and the world has turned it's back on you
Give me a moment please to tame your wild wild heart

Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
Your not alone
